This 42,377-acre area was once a sought-after place for gold panning and still is thanks to its abundance of minerals. During the 1950s, a dam was to be built on the grounds, but this plan was soon abandoned due to fears of its construction causing an earthquake.

Getting Outdoors
There are plenty of things to do outdoors when at the Auburn State Recreation Area. One activity visitors can do is hiking. There are a variety of trails visitors can explore that will take you past old mines, thick forests, rushing waterfalls, and stunning meadows. A few pathways that might be of interest are the Quarry Trail, Western States Trail, and Clementine Trail.
Camping at Auburn State Recreation Area

This camping spot is a short distance away from Lake Tahoe and offers numerous RV sites that come with amenities like WiFi, electricity, and water. Exploring the Area
There are plenty of nearby destinations that might be of interest to visit with your motorhome. A short drive away in Sacramento is the Aerospace Museum of California. This museum is designed to inform visitors of the aviation field. There is a large exhibit space filled with collections relating to planes, including a few artifacts from World War II and Apollo missions. You’ll also find restored planes and engines inside.

We were amazed at how well organized this vehicle is! They designed it with a lot of attention to detail, and it was really easy to live in it. It drives well so we had no problem maneuvering through camping areas and the water tank and batteries made it a breeze to find overnight spots pretty much anywhere.
James obviously takes great care of the vehicle, we had no problems whatsoever. I recommend watching his video--it really helps you take full advantage of all the features. Also, the flexibility on the pickup/dropoff times really made it easy to start and end the trip.
