Discover Barstow RV rentals for memorable road trips

Barstow, California, is a small city in the middle of the Mojave Desert of Southern California. The city is nicknamed the “Crossroads of Opportunity” due to its location at the junction of Interstates 40 and 15. Barstow is almost exactly halfway between Las Vegas, Nevada and Los Angeles, California, so it is a common stopping point or rest stop for people road tripping through the American Southwest.

Settlers began arriving from places like New Mexico and Utah in the 1830s in pursuit of new land to call their own. Its history has always been intertwined with the mining industry with lots of massive mineral reserves in the deserts around the city, although the city is mostly known as a stop for travelers on their way to and from the Los Angeles metro area.

You can book an RV in Barstow, which happens to be a lovely place to unwind and set up camp while you plot your next destinations. Serene desert landscapes abound near Barstow, so many people decide to rent an RV in the small city to put themselves in a prime position to explore the Southwest in all of its glory.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

It may be surrounded by inhospitable desert but the scenery of Southern California is stunning, even far away from the famous coastlines of Los Angeles and San Diego. Red Rock Canyon State Park is a prime example of magnificent desert beauty found in an excellent little park. There are almost 30,000 acres of desert nature preserves at the park, which contains hundreds of interesting wildlife types despite looking barren and devoid of life. You can hike through the area to several natural landmarks and geological formations in a location that has been used for countless Hollywood movie productions. There are two campgrounds that you may utilize when you arrive in your Barstow motorhome rental too. Lake Havasu State Park, on the Arizona-California state line, is a little farther away but an enjoyable and scenic ride through the desert with your Barstow camper rental. Lake Havasu is a popular vacation destination created by the damming of the Colorado River, one of the most important rivers in the western United States. There are numerous activities to be enjoyed at this lakefront park in the desert, although fishing, swimming, and boating seem to be the most popular. The Arroyo-Camino Interpretive Garden located at the park has a wide variety of desert flora on display and the campground on the lakefront is a fabulous place to sleep when you camp in your Barstow RV rental by owner. There are several national parks in the vicinity when you rent an RV in Barstow, so you’ll have some tough choices to make. Kings Canyon National Park and Death Valley National Park are known for their incredible canyons, gorges, and salt flats, while Sequoia National Park is one of the most widely visited parks in the entire country. Sequoia National Park is named for its mighty Sequoia trees that are among the most massive trees on Earth. The General Sherman tree, in particular, is an ancient tree larger than any other found in the world. Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most unique parks you might find during your travels, mostly consisting of desert shrubs and bizarre Joshua trees in a desert environment. There are campgrounds nestled between rock formations strewn throughout the park where guests can enjoy bouldering, rock climbing, or gazing at the heavenly night skies while keeping warm by the campfire.

Shady Lane RV Camp is a basic campground with all the essentials like water, bathrooms, electricity, and internet, and it is mostly a park used by through-travelers in RVs. Newberry RV Park is found in a convenient setting with a refreshing pool and spacious campsites. Calico Ghost Town is an old west mining town founded in the latter half of the 19th century, with plenty of old buildings preserved to make the town feel frozen in time. This fun tourism getaway has its very own campground for you to use when you rent an RV in Barstow. Barstow/Calico KOA belongs to the KOA chain of campgrounds found throughout the country. The park has its very own snack bar, convenience store, pool, and much more.

City Attractions

Barstow is merely a small town in the desert but it surprises most with its quaint downtown and bevy of educational museums. The Mojave River Valley Museum is a fascinating place to learn about the town and region’s history, dating back to before the arrival of the settlers when the Paiute, Chemehuevi, and Mojave natives dominated the land. There are a wealth of objects and photographs on display to paint an elaborate picture of the past. The Western American Railroad Museum also has a lot of cool stuff to see, like old, decommissioned freight trains and locomotives that once ferried goods in and out of Barstow. Route 66 Mother Road Museum pays tribute to the infamous Route 66 that has been the stuff of legends for decades. The iconic road that stretches across the United States has been mentioned in movies and songs forever and has inspired the museum where countless motorcycles, historic automobiles, and Route 66 memorabilia can be seen adorning the walls and spaces for all to see. NASA Goldstone Visitor Center is yet another educational institution housed in the Historic Harvey House, where space enthusiasts can learn about the vast deep space network of probes and spacecraft operated by the government organization.
