Often referred to as DHS, Desert Hot Springs is a tourism destination in the northern Coachella Valley of California. The land was once a winter camp for the Cahuilla native people due to its warm climate but all this would change with the arrival of homesteaders and settlers in the early 20th century.

As you may have guessed, the town is named for its incredible, natural hot springs that, unlike most other hot springs, are odorless and devoid of that sulfur smell. This small desert community was once a little-known place, but with the discovery of these magical hot springs, tourists began to recognize the town as a major destination. These days you can find fantastic restaurants, bars, and boutique hotels in town as well as unparalleled retail shopping. Adobe structures are the distinct style of the Southwest and can be found all throughout the town. When you book an RV in Desert Hot Springs, you can bathe in any of the hot springs in town to feel the effects of their rejuvenating waters or venture off to cities like Los Angeles or San Diego in your Desert Hot Springs camper rental.

Outdoors Adventures

Desert Hot Springs is fortunate to be surrounded by incredible desert landscapes and a wealth of nature parks so you won’t be disappointed when you rent an RV in the town with the intention of exploring. San Jacinto Mountain dominates the skyline of Desert Hot Springs so many visitors feel obligated to venture off and see the mountain for themselves. San Jacinto Mountain is found in San Bernardino National Forest, a stunning collection of wilderness areas, mountain ranges, and waterfalls. Speaking of waterfalls, two of the largest waterfalls in the state are found in the forest. Big Falls and Bonita Falls are heavenly water features cascading from high atop rocky cliffs, and an amazing experience to behold. There are several places to camp in the park if you decide to bring your Desert Hot Springs RV rental to visit.

Mount San Jacinto State Park is located adjacent to San Bernardino National Forest, providing people with yet another place to enjoy nature in their Desert Hot Springs camper rental. The park is home to part of the Pacific Crest Trail, making it a popular long-distance hiking hub.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a fine place to visit with your Desert Hot Springs RV rental if you have the time to head towards the United States’ border with Mexico. The park is among the largest in both the state and country, with epic desert landscapes and lots of exotic wildlife. There are nearly 500 dirt trails and roads in the park for off-roading and over 100 miles of hiking trails in this serene desert park.

One of California's most famous parks, Joshua Tree National Park, can be found to the north of town only several minutes away. This nature preserve consists of two distinct desert ecosystems clashing together to make a unique park with equally unique scenery. The strange Joshua trees that share their name with the park are scattered throughout the desert in between the numerous rocky outcroppings and geological features that are remnants from ancient times. Joshua Tree has several campgrounds for people to utilize when they rent an RV, as well as rock climbing, bouldering, and fantastic starry skies to photograph and stare at.

RV Parks to Visit

You shouldn’t have too much difficulty locating an accommodating place to stay while renting a Desert Hot Springs motorhome rental, especially with Joshua Tree National Park being so close to town. In fact, the national park is home to several campgrounds that park guests can use, with fantastic sunsets, sunrises, and night skies to enjoy while sitting around a crackling campfire. Several of the hot springs in town are actually located at campgrounds and RV parks, like Catalina Spa & RV Resort. The Catalina Spa has odorless, natural mineral hot springs for guests to enjoy, as well as a pool, a fitness center, tennis courts, and more.

City Sightseeing

In Desert Hot Springs, it should come as no surprise that the hot springs themselves remain the biggest attraction in town. There are over 20 lodges and natural spas built over the original hot springs where guests can go to be pampered; these all-inclusive spas help relax, revitalize, and energize people so the rest of their vacation is one-of-a-kind. Cabot’s Pueblo Museum is a massive handmade pueblo structure made from scratch, with over 30 rooms. The doors and windows and other items at the house were taken from abandoned homesteads to create a colossal “Frankenstein” house that is both functional and beautiful. The museum is a great place to learn a thing or two about the Cahuilla indigenous people, the original homesteaders, and more about the history of the town and area.

Palm Springs is one town over and has a few fun attractions of its own should you feel the need to get out and see more of Coachella Valley. Palm Springs Air Museum has a variety of restored aircraft from different time periods on display. Legendary fighter jets and bomber planes from WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War are preserved in the museum.
