One of the few manmade alpine lakes in the country, Lake Pillsbury was created in 1921 when the Scott Dam was constructed. The dam supplies power to the town of Ukiah, and a mile-long tunnel was built to divert the spillway water to Russian River, one of the few of its kind. Today, the lake is a popular recreational spot for many. On the southern end of the lake is a small community of summer homes. On the north end, set back into the trees away from the water is a small subdivision of homes. This neighborhood was once owned by entertainers Jackie Gleason and Jack Haley, who developed the area for residential homes.
