The Great Outdoors

Exploring the Town of Maywood
Most visitors to Maywood will probably be itching to get into nearby downtown Los Angeles, but there’s actually plenty to explore in the suburbs just south of the city. One of the more interesting sights near Maywood is the Watts Towers, a nearly 100-foot-tall set of steel towers that are decorated with refuse – bottles, bed frames, and ceramic tiles. Built in the 1920s by Italian-American artist Simon Rodia, the towers have become a major landmark in the Los Angeles area.
