Morgan Hill is an affluent community at the southern tip of Silicon Valley, in the San Francisco Bay area. It functions as the residential, recreational and entertainment district for Silicon Valley, and is home to several high-tech companies. Forbes Magazine has designated it one of the most expensive residential areas in the USA.

When you book an RV in Morgan Hill, you’ll have easy access to other cities like Santa Cruz, Monterey, Salinas and Los Banos. It was named for a Missouri businessman, Hiram Morgan Hill, who married the daughter of landowner Daniel Murphy. Later, by 1898, a Southern Pacific Railway Station was built at Huntington; travelers would ask to instead get off at Morgan's Hill Ranch, which was the center of a growing community and later became known just as Morgan Hill.

Geographically, Morgan Hill is ideally located within short traveling distance of both the ocean and beaches and several parks and lakes. Once you have set up your Morgan Hill RV rental at one of the local RV sites, you can use the public transit, taxis or a rental car to make your way. There are several chain food stores in the area where you can stock up on groceries, and even more locally owned and operated vendors. The same holds true for gassing up your vehicles, you have your choice between several of the nationally operated gas companies or several local gas stations.

The Great Outdoors

Those looking to burn off some calories can choose between The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, Soquel Demonstration State Forest, Almaden Quicksilver County Park, Henry W. Coe State Park, and Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch State Park. Nisene Marks, Soquel, and Almaden all offer hiking and mountain biking trails, but Nisene has a few trails with a steeper grade; all have easy level trails, good for family hikes. Coyote Lake has camping, fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Henry W. Coe State Park has trails for beginning to advanced hikers. Imagine parking your Morgan Hill rental camper at any of these attractions and stepping out your front door into complete wilderness every morning. Those who don't mind traveling a bit farther are within reach of the very famous Yosemite National Park.

Morgan Hill is also ground zero for a semi-precious gemstone known as Morgan Hill poppy jasper, which is formed through a combination of volcanic and seismic activity. Gem hunters should be warned that all known sources of these gems are located on private land, but they can be viewed at the Morgan Hill Museum, Morgan Hill Community Center and various stores and businesses all over the city. The gems are not likely for sale.

This charming city is also known for its vineyards and for wine tourism, and a trip here should probably include a visit to at least one of these venues. It is one of several cities that has been designated a protected American Viticultural Area. It is also sister city to five other international cities.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV sites to choose from, both within Morgan Hill and farther out. Most of these have all of the basic accessories (water, electricity, sewer, swimming pool, etc) but some do not. Any of these can be the ideal start to your Morgan Hill rental travel trailer vacation.

Directly in Morgan Hill, Maple Leaf RV Park has all of the basic amenities and plants you and the Morgan Hill camper rental right in town. To the northwest, San Jose has Joseph D. Grant County Park, which is popular with guests but has few amenities. Joseph D. Grant is more of a campground than an RV park.

Watsonville, to the southwest, has Mount Madonna County Park (no sewer, wifi or pool), Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA (all amenities) and Sunset State Beach (not many amenities but it is within walking distance of a beach).

To the southeast, San Juan Bautista has Betabel RV Park (lots of amenities) and Hollister has Casa de Fruta RV Orchard Resort (on the Pacheco Pass Highway).

Exploring The City

Morgan Hill's status as restaurant hub to Silicon Valley is due to its abundance of Michelin-rated eateries. Many establishments encourage customers to book reservations online and this is probably crucial to getting a seat, but the city has a wide range of options from very expensive to moderate and cheap cuisine. Don't be ashamed to ask for a take-out container and savour that exquisite meal the next day in the comfort of your Morgan Hill luxury rental RV.

There are many things to see and do within the city. In the unlikely event that one gets tired of all the nature on display, a good way to wind down and work off that wonderful dinner is to take a walking tour of the city itself and appreciate the architecture and city lights. Housing is extremely expensive here but rent a motorhome in Morgan Hill and you can, at least briefly, experience life in a community like this.
