Discover San Luis Reservoir RV rentals for memorable road trips

Visiting south-central California is a fantastic way to enjoy both mountain ranges and the ocean, and when you search for an RV in Merced County, you’ll be less than sixty miles from both Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz. While spending time in Mercer County, be sure to check out the San Luis Reservoir, which is the main source of freshwater for much of the region. This reservoir can trace its history back to 1871 when the first waterworks project in the area was constructed.

Getting Outdoors

There is plenty to do while you are RV camping at the San Luis Reservoir, both on the land and in the water itself. The waters of the reservoir are the most prominent feature of the recreation area, and guests can enjoy a day in the water by accessing it through the sandy beach area. There is swimming allowed, though there are no lifeguards on duty, and non-combustion powered boats and miscellaneous watercraft are also welcomed.

Camping at San Luis Reservoir

Motorhome camping at this recreation area is made easy thanks to the four different campsites in the region. The Basalt and San Luis Creek campgrounds offer over 120 sites in total and have convenient amenities like flushing toilets, showers, pull-through sites, and full hookups for RVs. These sites also offer easy access to regional trails and waterways, and dump stations are located at each campground for your convenience.

Exploring the Area

There are many exciting things to see when you rent a camper near Merced, as the town is one of the larger ones in the area. Although it isn’t the closest town to the San Luis River, it is the largest in the region and has the best selection of restaurants and gas stations for you to choose from. There are a lot of local Mexican restaurants, and you’ll also be able to easily find authentic California Baja style food.

I had the most incredible experience traveling throughout the Western US and Canada with Andy's Rockwood Geo Pro. The 2022 trailer is in impeccable condition with lots of fun modern features such as a BlueTooth sound system, 3 solar panels, 2 lithium ion batteries, two propane tanks, and an outdoor barbeque. It also has a spring-loaded hitch with multiple sway control mechanisms installed for safety. Weighing only a little over 4,000 pounds with water weight included, it was perfect for my 6 cylinder Jeep Grand Cherokee to haul. The layout of the cabin is very comfortable, with one large bed, two bunk beds, and a table that can convert into a bed if necessary. To top it off, you get to interface with Andy who is one of the kindest and most resourceful people I have met recently. Andy went way beyond the call of duty to make sure my trip was as flawless as possible. From making sure that the trailer was provisioned with all the basic items you need for use, to always being available to take my call when I had questions, to simply sharing stories of adventures on the road, Andy is a true gem and you will love getting to know him!
