Villa Park is a very small city in Orange County, California. Most of the city is zoned for single-family dwellings and has only one shopping center, which is situated right next to Villa Park's City Hall. The area where Villa Park now sits was originally settled in 1776 as a colony of New Spain and was known by several different names. It became a part of the United States in 1850 and was known as “Mountain View” in the 1860s. The community became known as Villa Park when the U.S. Postal Service refused to grant them a post office since there was already a pre-existing post office with the name “Mountain View”. At that time and throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, its economy focused on agriculture and the major crops produced were grapes, walnuts, apricots, and citrus fruits.
