Sites and Scenery

There is so much to see and do, including wonderful parks and recreational areas. A local favorite is the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Taking its name from 18th-century Spanish explorer, Juan Bautista de Anza, and the Spanish word for bighorn sheep or borrego, this park’s rugged landscape was formed by the strong and persistent forces of erosion. Wonderful trails, of all abilities and distances, are available to hike, as well as day use facilities, campgrounds, biking, hiking, and horseback riding.

World famous Joshua Tree National Park is right in the backyard of Yucca Valley and easily explored in your Yucca Valley rental RV. Merging two distinct desert systems, the Mojave and Colorado, this area features a wonderful variety of animals and plants that make their home in this land sculpted by strong winds and seasonal rains. The almost black night skies and rich cultural history make this a must-see to spend at least a few days. Named for the area’s twisted, bristly Joshua tree, the views from here are phenomenal, looking out over the Coachella Valley. There are dozens of hiking trails, as well as camping and other outdoor and recreational opportunities.

For an almost otherworldly experience, make sure to visit Sand to Snow National Monument in your Yucca Valley rental camper. This 154,000-acre park combines lands from the San Bernardino National Forest and Bureau of Land Management landscapes. Featuring over 30 miles of the famous Pacific Crest Trail, this spot is a favorite for hiking, hunting, camping, photography, birding, horseback riding, and skiing in the winter.

The grand San Bernardino National Forest is just 45 miles southwest of Yucca Valley, and serves as one of Southern California’s favorite year-round recreation destinations, as well as providing watershed protection for this part of the country. A highlight to check out in your Yucca Valley RV rental is the Rim of the World Scenic Byway, as well as the Palms to Pines Scenic Byway. Enjoy a myriad of outdoor activities here like hiking, ATV trails, camping, hunting, and fishing.

There are several great regional parks near Yucca Valley including Sheephole Valley Wilderness Area, just an hour’s drive to the east, with its sweeping desert landscapes, small crowds, and loads of freedom. This is also a great escape in the winter when daytime and evening temperatures are mild. The evening sky will take your breath away, as you gaze at stars, satellites, planets, and even the Milky Way.

Just west of Sheephole Valley is the Cleghorn Lakes Wilderness Area. You won’t believe you are on planet Earth when you visit this remarkable spot. With elevations ranging from 1,400’ to 4,100’, you may even come across bighorn sheep, desert tortoise and other unique wildlife. These waterless lakes sometimes burst to life with vibrant spring wildflower blooms.

Nearby Eureka Peak Trail is a favorite spot for bicycling, hiking and four-wheeling. The almost 10-mile trail/road features beautiful wildflower displays and is quite the challenge, so plan accordingly. Primarily used as a hiking and walking trail, birding is also a popular activity.

City Sites

In addition to the outstanding recreational activities, you’ll find that the Yucca Valley area is chock full of lots of other more civilized opportunities, too.

Make sure to visit the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum. There’s no place like this, and well worth a visit in your Yucca Valley rental motorhome. Funky and fun art is displayed in a rustic desert landscape, and this open-air museum features an offbeat collection that will rock your world.

Another unique spot that is popular with visitors is the Desert Christ Park. This historic park was built between the years of 1951-1961 by Frank Antone Martin and features a sculpture garden of religious statues in a pretty 3.5-acre setting.

Learn about desert ecosystems at the interactive Hi-Desert Nature Museum, featuring displays and exhibits about the animals and plants, as well as the geology of the immediate Yucca Valley and surrounding areas.

If shopping is your thing, you can’t go wrong in nearby Palm Springs, the famous resort community that is home to many Hollywood stars. Known for its hot springs, fancy hotels, numerous spas, and golf courses, you’ll also find spectacular examples of mid-century architecture, and a stunning shopping district along Palm Canyon Drive. This spot features vintage boutiques, restaurants, interior design shops, and much more.

Don’t miss the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway which takes you up and through the Chino Canyon area. This is a truly breathtaking experience, culminated at the top with a place to dine, a nice museum, and several nature paths and hiking trails.

One of the best and most sizable children’s museums is in Palm Springs. Kids of all ages love the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert. This is a truly special place for children to experience the joy of learning about themselves and their world.

To learn about the native animal species of the area, make sure to visit the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. Explore over 1,000 acres of desert ecosystems, including a natural bighorn sheep enclosure, as well as small animal exhibits.

For the art lover, the world-class Palm Springs Art Museum is one of the largest cultural institutions in all the Coachella Valley. This wonderful museum is actually in three different locations including downtown Palm Springs. Featuring rotating exhibitions and special collections, a nice gift shop, and cafe, this place is worth a day of exploration and enjoyment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are RV rentals?

Renting an RV lets you enjoy the flexibility of RV travel without all the costs and maintenance of ownership. With a rental, you can book the perfect rig for any trip just like you would a car or hotel. With Outdoorsy, you rent directly from the RV owner but get the backing of programs like roadside assistance, insurance, and stellar support from real, live people 24/7.

How much are average RV rentals?

On average, you can expect to pay between $75 and $150 per night to rent most small trailers and campervans. Larger trailers and motorhomes could cost $100 to $250 per night. Renting an RV for a longer time can be even more affordable–a week or month-long rental could average out to less than $60 per day.

Are there RV rentals with unlimited mileage?

Yes! Each RV owner can choose whether to offer unlimited miles on their vehicles. You’ll be able to see if unlimited mileage is an option on any listing you check out. If unlimited miles are not available, you’ll be able to see what is included with the base rate and what extra miles will cost.

Are RV rentals pet-friendly?

Many RV owners allow pets in their rentals. Be sure to check the listing to see if it’s an option for the rig you have your eye on. You’ll be able to see if there is an extra deposit or fee for pets before you request a booking.

Do RV rentals offer delivery?

Having an RV delivered to your home or destination is a great way to simplify your trip. Many RV owners offer delivery and setup services, usually for an extra fee or within a certain distance of their location. Each listing shows whether or not delivery is an option.

Are there RV rentals near me?

RV rentals are available all over the country! Whether you want to pick up an RV near home to set out an epic road trip or if you want to have one ready at your destination, you can search by location for any type of rig.

RV rental vs buying?

Renting an RV is an affordable way to get all the benefits of RV travel without the maintenance and overhead of ownership. It’s also a great way to try out the lifestyle and different types of rigs before you take the plunge and buy your own. Already own an RV? Consider renting yours out to bring in some extra income.

How many people can sleep in an RV?

Small travel trailers and campervans can usually sleep 2-4 people comfortably. Mid-size trailers and motorhomes usually sleep 4-8. Bigger rigs often sleep 6-10, some even 12!

Why choose Outdoorsy vs Craigslist or Airbnb?

Security, for one. Outdoorsy helps protect RV owners and renters with excellent support and insurance options, and a secure platform for listings, communication, and payments. There are plenty of other reasons though, like roadside assistance, detailed listings, and a wide variety of RVs to choose from.

We parked the trailer at our friends cabin out there and unhooked. We mostly stayed around the campfire hanging out, but when we were not doing that we went on a drive to a cute little place that I cannot remember the name of, but they have hammocks and a cool tour you can go on inside a building. We also drove out to a giant rock where there is a tunnel under it and a mountain of rocks behind it to go and climb.
