Oakville, Ontario is located about halfway between the cities of Hamilton and Toronto along the shores of Lake Ontario. In the early 1800s, the lands currently occupied by the city of Oakville were purchased from aboriginal peoples so British immigrants could settle there. Oakville would go on to become a shipbuilding industrial hub reliant on its position adjacent to the lake for much of its prosperity.

These days Oakville’s population has skyrocketed, making it one of the largest cities in the Toronto metropolitan area which is already one of the most densely populated places in Canada. Several historic neighborhoods carry the past with them, and antiquated buildings and historic landmarks can be seen on nearly every corner.

Due to the highly diverse population in Oakville, almost every culture in the world is represented here, making for some pretty delicious cuisine and some great cultural celebrations. The Waterfront Festival along with the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival, the For the Love of the Arts Festival, the Oakville Family Ribfest, and the annual street festival known as Midnight Madness account for some of the best festivals and cultural celebrations in the region and are largely responsible for bringing in millions of tourists each year to the delightful lakefront city.

This culturally potent powerhouse is one-of-a-kind and a fantastic place to rent an RV for a vacation. When you book an RV in Oakville, not only are there numerous public transit options to explore the metro area, there are seemingly endless nature preserves, lakeside beaches, public parks, forests, and other natural wonders to see making the city an underrated place to visit.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Much like its neighbor cities, Toronto and Mississauga, Oakville is an extremely green city that continually places an emphasis on having pleasant public spaces where people can enjoy the seamless blend of nature and cityscape. Coronation Park is one example of how Oakville utilizes its public space for the benefit of the community, especially its land next to Lake Ontario. This gorgeous lakefront park has scenic picnic areas with covered areas and BBQ pits, and a stage for summer concerts. Lakeside Park and Tannery Park are two of Oakville's other great lakefront parks, sitting on both sides of the Sixteen Mile Creek that empties into Lake Ontario. Lakeside Park is a tranquil place with lots of green space and is even home to the town's first post office.

Kawartha Highlands Regional Park can be found by driving two hours north of the metro area. This park is excellent for camping in your Oakville RV rental, as well as canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and hiking. Another Ontario spectacle worth seeing when you rent an RV in Oakville is the iconic Niagara Falls State Park on the Canadian-United States border. This glorious collection of towering waterfalls is one of the most famous natural water features in the world and brings in millions of visitors each year.

Algonquin Provincial Park was named a National Historic Site in 1992 as it is the oldest park of its kind in the country. The park truly set a high standard for other parks in Canada to strive for, and its original cabins and old buildings can still be toured to this day.

Pukaskwa National Park can be found far to the north on the shores of Lake Superior and is very deserving of a visit after you rent a motorhome in Oakville and take a road trip. The park is known for its stretch of undeveloped coastline that is the largest in the Great Lakes region, with over 700 miles of sandy beaches, waterfalls, and rugged forest.

Bruce Peninsula National Park is a fabulous place to visit in your Oakville motorhome rental, to see its spectacular limestone bluffs and ancient rocky grottos on the Bruce Peninsula that juts into Lake Huron. Both Bruce Peninsula National Park and Point Pelee National Park are not far from Oakville. Point Pelee National Park is near Detroit, Michigan in the United States and has unbelievable views of Lake Erie, and some of the best birdwatching on the continent.
