Phil is a brand new 2022 Thor Motor Coach Rise 18t Promaster 1500. This custom professional conversion is fully equipped with a sleeping for up to 4 (two adults and two kids is perfect). Two on the main bed and two upstairs in the pop top tent. Both beds are approximately full size beds. For Off Grid camping he has a Onan GQ 2800 generator, 190 watt Solar panel and 1000 watt inverter. Also has exterior propane hookup for outdoor grill and water washdown hose. He is a dream to drive with a powerful 280HP V6 and lots of traction with FWD. averaging 16.5 MPG which is a big consideration on long trips. Uses easy to find Regular 87 Octane fuel not expensive and sometime hard to find diesel. Fully loaded with all the bells and whistles like Cruise control, bluetooth, large mirrors and windshield make navigating easy. This camper does NOT have a shower or bathroom. We do offer a portable port-a-potty that stores neatly in the back. This is a simple camper and most use rest stops and use the camp ground facilities.
When you pick up Phil he will be:
Topped off with fuel,
Filled water and propane tanks
Made sure he is clean and disinfected, stocked and ready to go

Also very important- Phil is only an 18 foot long RV packed with everything you need but space is tight. Please only pack soft sided luggage or duffle bags as storage space for hard sided suitcases is limited. All you need to bring are pillows, blankets and food.

Meet your host, James

Member since 2021

I have been enjoying the outdoors RVing, camping and overlanding for over 30 years. This year I decided to focus on Class B vans and help people get into the "VAN Life"! I have have a 5000 sq foot shop where we customize and maintain our vehicles and customer projects as well. I will be introducing a line of custom parts for Sprinters and Promasters in the spring of 2023.

The van was great, super clean, very well stocked, easy to drive, and James was easy to work with. Main bed very comfortable. Pop too kinda tight, ok for two kids/small teens maybe. The skylight doesn’t completely close which adds quite a bit of noise when driving, but James said the manufacturer is supposed to fix that. We didn’t use the kitchen except the microwave and fridge. Only downsides were mainly due to the Outdoorsy platform/site: 1) required insurance was not clearly disclosed, overpriced and the site defaults to the overpriced “mid-priced” option, which feels like a scam; 2) excess mileage charge of 45 cents/mile over 100 miles per day was not clearly disclosed. If I had known about these extra changes I might have passed. Of course once you’ve gone through the trouble of picking out a vehicle and completing all the info and booking it seems like a big hassle to try to cancel for charges not clearly or prominently disclosed. I complained to the site and they claim it’s all disclosed in the fine print but they really should do better. Everyone hates hidden fees. I am not sure I’d use this site again unless and until they fix those issues. Even AirBnB and StubHub clearly disclose all fees so you know how much you’re really spending before you commit.

We had the most wonderful trip, exploring Florida, with "Phil". James was easy to work with and kind. "Phil" was immaculate and had everything we needed, while still allowing us to park in downtown areas with ease. We would love to book with James again in the future.

Have a question?Get answers directly from the owner

Q.What do I need to bring?
A.
Phil is stocked with almost everything you need for a quick getaway. It has dishes and utensils for 4. A few pots and pans, a kettle and press for coffee. We supply mattress covers and sheets. You will need to bring your own pillows and blankets. Remember to pack light and only bring soft sided bags. Large suitcases will be hard to store.

Q.Can I go off roading in Phil?
A.
No Off Roading. Although we think Phil is a weird combo of ugly and strangely handsome and rugged looking. He is actually quite low to the ground with some components like the generator and holding tanks. So please be aware of this and tread lightly. Any normal dirt or gravel road is fine. You are 100% responsible to any damage done to him.

Q.How hard is it to set up the PopTop Tent?
A.
Super easy. You unlock the top and two safety latches from the inside, give it a push and up she goes. takes less than 30 seconds. Putting away is just as easy, pull two straps and down she comes. FYI the upper bunk makes for great storage area if you are not sleeping up there while camping.

Q.What happens if we break down?
A.
Highly unlikely in a new camper but we have 24 hour road side assistance from 2 different companies that are just a phone call away.
