Discover Fort Myers Beach, FL

Just south of Fort Myers, Florida, Fort Myers Beach comprises a barrier island on the gulf side of Florida. The history of Fort Myers Beach is an exciting one filled with pirates and buried treasure, fishing and shrimping convoys, and the constant stream of tourists. Known as one of the safest beach towns in the United States, Fort Myers Beach offers the perfect getaway for anybody looking to spend some time in the sun, listening to the waves crash on the sand, and indulging in all the seafood they can handle.

The roads are fairly wide around town, so driving your RV rental in Fort Myers Beach won’t be much of a problem. However, you can also jump on the trolleys operated by LeeTran that move up and down the island. These trolleys will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time as you whizz about this domestic tropical paradise.

As you spend more time in this wonderland, you’ll be glad you made the choice to book an RV in Fort Myers Beach. In fact, you may never want to leave this jewel of the Gulf Coast.

The Great Outdoors

There’s so much to see and do on and off the island of Fort Myers Beach, but the definite go-to destinations would be the miles of beaches that circle the barrier island. There are several beaches where you can simply sit and enjoy the day.

However, just south of the island is Lovers Key State Park. Here, the beaches are protected and offer you the same enjoyment of sun and waves you’ll get at most other beaches, but you’ll also get the additional wildlife spotting, kayak rentals, and boardwalk.

Just about 30 minutes from downtown Fort Myers Beach is Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve, in Estero. Florida’s first aquatic preserve, the park serves to protect the bay and the surrounding marshes in order to focus on the welfare of the wildlife in the area. When you visit, you can hike as many or as few of the seven trails on site. Each trail gives you views of different ecosystems within the park, such as bay views or marsh views or even pine flatwood views. Also a frequent stop for migratory birds, Estero Bay is a wonderful place to see some of the waterfowl that Florida and the Gulf Coast are so famous for.

If you are willing to drive your Fort Myers Beach RV rental by owner a little farther, just shy of two hours southeast of town, near Immokalee, is the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge. The land here has been set aside to aid the re-growth of the local Florida panther population. Here, you can immerse yourself in their natural habitat. Most of the refuge is not open to the public, but there are two hiking trails you can explore. While it is very unlikely you will see a panther, there is a great possibility in seeing some other Florida wildlife, such as red-shouldered hawks, deer, and osprey.

RV Parks

Upon securing your camper rental in Fort Myers Beach, you’ll come to realize that you’re going to need to find a place to park your home away from home. Luckily enough, there are plenty of seaside locations and dry locations for you to do so.

If you’re looking for something with a view of the beautiful blue waters of the eastern Gulf, then look to the Red Coconut RV Park. With full electric and water hookups, showers, and laundry facilities, you’ll truly be in your own slice of paradise as you park your Fort Myers Beach rental motorhome within earshot of the waves crashing on the sand. The beach that the park sits on is ready to be used by RV travelers; there aren’t many places in the world where you can do your laundry and relax on the beach at the same time.

If you’ve had enough of the Florida sand and sun, then maybe head back to the mainland, just north of the island, to Gulf Waters RV Resort – Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Here, you will have access to electrical hookups, a heated pool, showers, laundry facilities, and even a poolside tiki bar.

Exploring the City

After exploring much of southwestern Florida, you may decide it’s time to turn your Fort Myers Beach motorhome rental back where it came from and do some local exploring.

If you want to get a little closer to some of the wildlife in the area, you can jump onto one of the wildlife cruises that are in the area. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see dolphins, manatees, otters, sea turtles, and all sorts of water birds.

If you want to get a better understanding of the local atmosphere, head to the pedestrian-geared Times Square. Near Estero Beach, you can savor some local seafood, do a little bit of souvenir shopping, and see some street performers all in one afternoon. Rent an RV near Fort Myers Beach, FL, and get a taste of some beach-town vibes.
