A true small town nestled in the crook of Crescent Lake, Crescent City, is nicknamed the “Tree City USA” due to the abundance of trees in the area. Crescent City was officially founded in 1852. One of the civil rights leaders, A. Philip Randolph, was born in Crescent City in 1889. The nearby Dream Pond is used as a field station for the American College of Applied Science’s students to study the local wildlife. Driving through the town, you’ll step back in time to late 1800s. Remnants of orange and citrus groves still dot the area, and beautiful turn of the century homes line the streets.

The closest large town is Palatka, about 25 miles to the north. The Atlantic Ocean is a little over 40 miles to the east. The drive to the Gulf of Mexico’s coast is a longer one, well over 100 miles west. Participate in various water sports on both the Crescent Lake and the Atlantic coast beaches, watch a race at the Daytona Indy 500 racetrack, or witness a historic rocket launch at Cape Canaveral. Historic tours, boat tours, and sightseeing spots are also available in the older towns along the coast.
