Located on the shores of the Sweet Water Creek, the sites have a country like setting, but the park is not far from Atlanta, from your rustic stay and vibrant city attractions, you only need to drive 20 miles. The largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere, offers many learning opportunities. You can watch the whale shark in the viewing theater or if you're adventurous enough you can even swim with them. Walk through the exhibit tunnel wand watch as the fish swim above you. Travel through different ecosystems as you visit the five galleries.
Located at the Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robbins, Georgia, the Museum of Aviation has the advantage of being a functional museum, with many of the exhibits containing real war planes and workhorses from the past 75 years of American aviation. There is no admission charge, and the museum is open 361 days a year, so visitors to the area can pretty much enjoy all the museum has to offer year round. The Museum of Aviation first opened to the public in 1984 with just 20 aircraft on display in an open field, and another 20 aircraft in various stages of restoration. Since then the museum has grown to become the second largest in the United States Air Force, and the fourth most visited museum in the Department of Defense. The museum is a place that honors war veterans and their families, and reminds all citizens of the legendary Air Force heritage. With 3 hangars full of planes, this museum is a must visit, especially for those with kids.
Strangely enough, good campgrounds in Warner Robbins, Georgia, can be hard to find, but there are some that stand out. The Interstate Campground & RV Center is one of them. Although situated close to the interstate, this campground is very clean and quiet and offers lovely wooded, level pull through sites with plenty of room for big rigs to maneuver. Full hookups are available at the sites including 30 and 50 amp power, water, sewer, and free wifi. The bathrooms have hot showers and are regularly cleaned, as is the laundry area, and the swimming pool is a welcome relief on hot days for road-weary travelers. Although there is a playground, this is not so much a destination or resort campground as it is a great, journey type park for an overnight stop when visiting the area. The roads in the park are gravel and wide enough to turn a motor home.
