Discover Lake Oliver RV rentals for memorable road trips

Lake Oliver is located on the Chattahoochee River in the city of Columbus in west-central Georgia. Considered a mecca for outdoor recreation, and a great spot for a motorhome camping trip, Lake Oliver also shares a shoreline with the state of Alabama, and attracts visitors from both states to its shores, especially during the summer months. While the Oliver Dam and Generating Plant created the lake in 1959, it was named after James McCoy Oliver, an executive at Georgia Power, at the time it was built. It’s a part of the Georgia Power lakes that also includes Lake Harding, Goat Rock Lake, and North Highlands Lake. The idea behind Lake Oliver was the supply of hydroelectric power and the supply of water to the city of Columbus.

Getting Outdoors

While public access to Lake Oliver is limited to one marina that’s owned by the City of Columbus, there’s a boat launch area equipped with boat ramps, docks, parking, and a bait and tackle shop. Lake Oliver is a favorite with anglers, and bream, sunfish, white bass, redear sunfish, hybrid striped bass, and spotted bass are common fish species found in the lake. Serious anglers should make their way to Lake Oliver in the fall and spring months for fishing. Summer months are pretty busy with outdoor recreationists out on the lake, and the fish might not be as keen to stick around for anglers with so many people out on the lake! Pier fishing and boat fishing are both pretty popular on Lake Oliver.

Joseph dropped off our camper ahead of schedule, and it was turn-key when we arrived. The camper was exactly as described, and it was the perfect fit for our family. Joseph was an incredibly easy host to work with, and we look forward to booking with him again in the future!
