"This Jeep was a great rental that was well equipped to have the offroad adventure we were imagining in the Southwest! The host was friendly, enthusiastic, and accommodating about a situation with the phone holder. The rooftop tent was clean and comfortable. Surprisingly, we ended up not using the batwing canopy at all, so I cannot comment on that. We opted to add the generator, which worked out well for our needs (we were on a longer, 3 week trip and stayed in one place very little), but the solar battery worked incredibly well and would probably be sufficient for most shorter trips. Recommendations from our experience: - Charge all batteries before handing off to the next renter, especially the emergency jumpstart batteries. The rental included two of these, but neither were charged enough to be used in an emergency, so we were glad we checked them beforehand and had time to charge them before leaving for remote areas. Handing over the solar battery fully charged as well would be a nice convenience for renters, especially if they are expecting to pick up the car and start their adventure right away. - Check the torque specs and/or weight specs on the Smittybilt spare tire mount. At pickup, the rear door dropped very slightly when opened. The host's explanation was that it was due to the heavy spare tire. However, on the first unpaved road of our trip (the well established route to Hole in the Rock in Escalante, Utah), the bottom bolt hinge bolt fell out, so we suspect that the bolt may have already been loose. Of course, there is no longer any way to know for certain if that was the cause, but it would explain the drop in the door. And if the initial door drop was not caused by a loose bolt or or insufficient torque, it means the whole mount is not sufficient for the weight of the tire it's carrying. - Replace the lug nuts on the spare tire. We tried to take down the spare tire to address the issue with the rear door and discovered that the lug nuts may have been overtightened. They were stripped enough that the lug nut key would not catch on the threads. We are grateful that we never got a flat tire because that would have been a major safety concern to not be able to dismount the spare, especially in remote desert areas. - Recalibrate the speedometer for the larger tires or at least inform renters that it isn't accurate. We noticed the discrepancy on our GPS speed reading vs the car speedometer. It sets renters up to get a speeding ticket if they aren't aware. - Check that the cooler is clean before pickup. We were unpleasantly surprised to find a half centimeter of some dirty, fermenting liquid in the bottom of it when we went to load our own food in the grocery store parking lot. - Conduct a thorough check of functionality of all components. Some inconveniences were caused by items that did not work properly: The 12 volt charging ports in the car; the water pump, even when charged; the front light bar; and one of the tent fly pole ports was missing, causing the the fly to flap distractingly at night in the desert wind. A photo of the car at pickup showed that the pole port was missing at that time and did not fall out during our trip. - Update the listing and employees to accurately reflect equipment that is/isn't included. Something like "cooking equipment is not guaranteed but may be available upon request (electric stove, pot, pan, cooking utensils, plates, and eating utensils)" can help renters plan for what they need to bring and what they can leave home. - Send the checkout link on time. We felt we had less protections as renters by not being able to complete the checkout process properly. Despite this list of recommendations, I want to reiterate that overall, this Jeep did what we needed it to do to have a memorable adventure. We hope these suggestions are considered carefully for the next renters to have an even more positive experience. Thank you."

The vehicle was AMAZING and we had a truly fabulous time. It was in good repair, all components worked well. The downside was communication. This company did not respond to outdoorsy messages, phone calls, or emails, only to text messages and only on their own timeline. In order to add the various extras described in the listing (which were overpriced BTW, bring your own!), I had to eventually call outdoorsy customer support to get hold of the company. They did not at that point even acknowledge the messages I had been sending the.m for weeks, simply sent an automated text to watch a set of instructions and a link to book extras. Knowing this now, I would rent again. But in the weeks leading up to the trip it was concerning and I nearly canceled because I thought the listing must be a scam since no one answered.
