Ashley, IL, is a small community in southern Illinois. The closest major city is St. Louis, Missouri, at an hour’s drive to the west. Settlers from the east first began arriving in Ashley in 1825, but the town would not become official until 1854 when the very first businesses started to open up. Small stores, saloons, and other family-owned businesses began to spring up in what became a prosperous little area.
Ashley is country town with only a few main roads. It is located several miles south of Interstate 64 which connects with the town of Mount Vernon. Despite it not being the most lively or entertaining town, there are loads of quaint towns, vibrant city centers, and fabulous parks within driving distance. When you search for an RV in Ashley, Illinois there are great times ahead.
City Park is Ashley’s main park, and has a nice playground and ample space to move around and play in the green, grassy meadows beside it. Washington County State Conservation Area is a 900-acre refuge centered around Washington County Lake. There are a few docks and swimming areas in the lake to cool off when the weather is hot.

This amazing park is known for its hunting, fishing, and spectacular lakeside campgrounds.

This sprawling forest has seven wilderness areas with natural rock formations and waterfalls galore. The “Little Grand Canyon” is located in Shawnee National Forest, full of breathtaking views overlooking the valley.
