This 29-acre lake features two miles of shoreline to explore, and the lake is well-known for its diverse stock of fish. Anglers will love this lake and catches include bullhead, catfish, crappie, and more. The lake is also large enough for small watercraft, including kayaks or canoes, and if you're looking to cool off, you're welcome to take a dip in these calm waters.

Alternatively, you may prefer to explore some of the park's beautiful 550 acres of forests and fields. This park features several trails ranging from under a mile to over three miles in length. These trails are ideal for a gentle stroll around the park, with paths leading through the forest and along the lake, or through restored prairies that used to be farmland. During your walk, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including an array of bird species, including herons, migrating warblers, and eastern bluebirds. The park also features over 30 different species of butterfly, which can commonly be seen in the park's meadows and prairies, providing a vibrant background as you stroll through the tallgrass.

If you're looking to relax while camping at Weldon Springs State Park, you might want to consider lazing around at one of the park's picnic tables. There are eight different picnicking areas, six of which have shelters. These picnic areas are well equipped with several amenities, including grills, fire rings, toilet facilities, and much more, to make sure you can make the most out of your leisurely lunch. The larger picnic shelters also have playground equipment to keep children entertained, and these shelters can be booked in advance.

There are over 70 gravel campsites available, each of which provides electric hookups that support 30/50 amp service. There are no sewer and water hookups; however, there is access to water hydrants, pit toilets, and a dump station.

When you park your camper rental at Welson Springs State Park, you'll be minutes from the lake and the beautiful forests and pastures the state park provides. All sites at Weldon Springs are back-in only, making this a good campground for more experienced campers. Weldon Springs also provides a few home comforts, including showers and restrooms.

Exploring the Area

Clinton campers will love discovering the many big cities that are near to Weldon Springs State Park. While in the area, you should plan a trip to Illinois' capital, Springfield. The city is full of history and is well-known for its association with Abraham Lincoln. History buffs will want to visit Abraham Lincoln's Greek Revival-style home, where visitors can take a tour and see artifacts relating the Lincoln while learning more about his life. Springfield has several interesting museums, including the Illinois State Museum, which is filled with amazing exhibitions on locally found fossils, the history of native people, and artwork, both local and international.
