Picnicking is a big thing at Jackson Washington State Forest. Sitting at an elevation of 3200 feet near the peak of Round Knob in Greene County lies the Round Knob Picnic Area. The historic picnic area is tucked away in an oak grove and consists of more than a dozen wooden picnic tables as well as five stone fireplace ovens. There are boat ramps at both Knob Lake and Spurgeon Hollow Lake. Keep in mind that boats are limited to electric trolling motors only.

Alternatively, consider state park RV camping at Hardy Lake State Park. Brownstown campers get access to electric hookups only, but water faucets are spread throughout the campground, and there’s a dump station for waste management. This campground is recommendable for active guys as there are outdoor courts, horseshoes, and recreational trails.

Exploring the Area

Before packing up your travel trailer for more adventures, spare some time and visit the nearby towns of Salem and Scottsburg.
