Located in the central and southern part of the state in Corydon, the park is a part of the 26,000-acre Harrison Crawford State Forest. While the state park covers over 2000 acres, it is known for the Wyandotte Caves, considered one of the world’s largest ‘underground mountains’ with over nine miles of caverns. Another highlight of O Bannon Woods State Park is the Blue River that runs through the park. Bordering the park is also the Ohio River.

Put on your hiking boots and set out to explore over 200 miles of trails at O Bannon Woods State Park and the Harrison Crawford State Forest area. 

Stop by at the historic Haypress where you get to know all about how hay was pressed for sale and transported in the mid 19th century. 

Hunting is another favored outdoor activity in the park. Certain parts of the park have permitted hunting areas, and hunters can bag whitetail deer, wild turkeys, and squirrels among other wildlife. 

Equestrians have 80 miles of marked horse trails to explore in the state park. 

Camping at O Bannon Woods State Park  

Summer is the best time to camp out in your rental motorhome at O Bannon Woods State Park. The Stagestop Campground has over 250 campsites. Amenities at the campground include pull-thru sites, big rig access, tent camping, 30 and 50 amp electric service, water, a dump station, central water spigot, and limited cell phone coverage. Campers have access to restrooms, showers, and a picnic shelter. Kids will have a blast in the swimming pool, and they have plenty of room to run around in the playground. Explore the many recreational trails around the campground. Don't forget to bring Fido along to this pet-friendly campground. 

When you’re looking for a place to call home in an RV near O Bannon Woods State Park, consider the Grand Trails RV Park. The RV park has 42 campsites, and the campground features pull-thru sites, big rig access, tent camping, full hookups, 30, 50 amp electric service, sewer, water, WiFi, and cell phone coverage. There are restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities available as well. This is a pet-friendly campground, so bring your four-legged friends along. 

Exploring the Area

Harrison County campers have lots of history and nature to explore in the areas around O’Bannon Woods State Park. Don’t miss out on exploring the city of Corydon. It’s home to the Indiana Caverns that has the longest cave in the state. You’ll get to view rock formations, fossils, and gorgeous waterfalls. Take a tour around the caverns that goes through the Binkley Cave System, and end your tour with a boat ride on an underground stream. 

Spend an afternoon at the Hayswood Nature Reserve that spans over 300 acres. Check out the nature conservancy and make the most of scenic natural surroundings. There’s a fishing pier should you want to try your luck catching fish here. 

The Corydon Capitol State Historic Site is a popular attraction. The site features the brick governor’s headquarters and the Capitol Building that was built over a century ago. 

Take a trip through history at the Battle of Corydon Battlefield that was the only area to witness a civil battle in Indiana. Cabin tours are offered at the site and provide an interesting insight into the history of the area. Should you happen to visit in July, you can witness a reenactment of the battle. 

Dig into local favorites at one of the many local restaurants in Corydon. When you fancy something special, indulge in a meal at one of the fine dining restaurants located here.
