Stretching across 1,700 acres of fantastic Indiana landscape, Lincoln State Park is a dream destination for motorhome campers who like to spend their time surrounded by beautiful nature. The boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln encompasses hiking trails as well as two mesmerizing lakes where Lincoln campers come to relax and unwind. This Spencer County jewel also offers activities such as historic tours, interpretive center programs and workshops, boating, fishing, and more.

Park visitors who plan to book an RV in Spencer County can find a motorhome rental in Santa Claus or Lincoln City, as both are practically adjacent to the state park. Alternatively, Dale is just five miles away. Whether you're renting an RV or you have your own rig, you'll be greeted by the amazing scenery of Lincoln State Park all the same.

Being the childhood home of one of the most iconic American presidents, Lincoln State Park is stocked with interesting sites for history buffs, like the memorial to Abraham Lincoln’s mother, Nancy, the home of Lincoln’s employer, James Gentry, the Colonel William Jones house, and many more.

Discover Lincoln State Park

Getting Outdoors

Lincoln State Park is loaded with exciting trails. But the one hike you shouldn't miss is Mr. Lincoln’s Neighborhood Walk, where campers follow the footsteps of young Abraham Lincoln on his childhood routes. The one-mile hike starts at the Amphitheatre Dining Pavilion. Along the way, you'll get to see Noah Gorden Home and Mill, the Gentry Store, Samuel Howell Place, Little Pigeon Baptist Church, and the gravesite of Lincoln’s sister, Sarah.

However, if you're not a fan of history and you just want to enjoy the captivating landscapes, then you should explore the Weber Lake Trail. Feel free to bring your kids along since this trail is appropriate for all ages. The roughly two-mile route will take you along the Troy-Gentryville Road to Weber Lake, where you'll get to see a variety of wetland plants and animal species.

Afterward, you can have a perfect day in nature while picnicking with your loved ones by the lake. Take a look at the boat rentals and continue your adventure on the blue waters of the lake. Lincoln State Park's beach is open to all visitors from Memorial Day weekend all through to Labor Day weekend. If you're visiting in the peak season, you can also enjoy different beach activities like swimming and volleyball. Anglers are encouraged to bring their rods since fishing is a year-round activity at Lake Lincoln, which is filled with bluegill, bass, and sunfish.

Camping at Lincoln State Park

Lincoln State Park RV camping can be either modern or primitive, depending on your preferences. There 150 electric and 88 non-electric sites that campers are welcome to use. Both electrical and non-electrical campground sites allow pets, so you can bring your furry friend with you on this adventure.

The maximum RV length is 45 feet, although there aren't many of these sites available. The majority of sites allow RVs between 30 and 40 feet, so keep that in mind when choosing your motorhome rental. You can reserve a specific site in advance. Other camping amenities include drinking water, restrooms, showers, and a dump station.

Exploring The Area

There's no need to worry if your gas tank needs a refill since there's a gas station right next to the park where you can fill up or grab some late-night snacks. But you're not limited to goodies from the gas station. Just a short five-minute drive to the east will take you to a hub of fast-food restaurants where you can satisfy your cravings.

Continue down the same road and use this opportunity to visit an amusement park that features fun rides and water slides. The youngest members of your family are sure to have a blast at this park, but it will also keep the older ones entertained as well. Take a ride on a thrilling roller coaster or go and see one of the comedy magic shows.

As mentioned, right next to the park is the town called Santa Claus, and if you and your kids are up for an early Christmas experience, this is the best place to be. There's a museum village here fully dedicated to our iconic jolly friend Santa Claus, and there's a lot to see here. You can visit the post office and write to Santa and his elves, and believe it or not, they will even reply! Make sure you bring your camera as well since you get to take a picture with Santa’s statue. Finally, if you're around during a special event at the village, your little ones will definitely have a memorable time here.

A bit further away, about seven miles north of the park, is an interesting museum that features different musical machines and instruments. Reproductions of organs used in amusement parks, nickelodeons, Limonaire organs, and many others on display will show you the true marvels of the music from the past.
