Though on a smaller side as far as state parks go, John James Audubon State Park has plenty of activities to keep everyone busy.

Overnight stays are completely allowed at John James Audubon State Park with a prior reservation. The 69-site campground is encompassed by the natural beauty of the park and offers a place of unspoiled solitude. A central service building located near the campground contains the shower and restroom facilities. Picnic tables, playgrounds, and grills are available in the camping area.

Though if you find that John James Audubon State Park is all booked up while you’re in town, you’ll be able to easily find accommodation for your rental RV at one of several campgrounds in Henderson. The amenities are plenty, and the people are wonderful. You’ll feel right at home anywhere in the area.

Before venturing out of John James Audubon State Park, be sure to stop in at the onsite museum featuring the life and works of John James Audubon himself. It’s a lovely tribute to the park’s namesake and a great insight into why the area is so special.

Henderson is considered the southernmost suburb of Evansville, IN, and was once home to blues musician legends W. C. Handy. The city is petit with a very friendly vibe. The downtown is riddled with delicious eateries and small shops for perusing. Henderson holds a variety of local festivals throughout the year, some of the notable ones include Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival and the Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival. Be sure to check the city’s event calendar if you’re a fan of the blues and some classic BBQ.

A little further out, John James Audubon State Park campers can set their sights on Evansville. This populous city is a metropolitan hub in Indiana. Test your luck at the casino, stare in amazement at the zoo and botanic gardens, or spend a little money at the various stores and restaurants. Evansville is all about working hard and playing harder. But, you are on vacation, so definitely don’t work too hard.
