Discover Beaver Lake County Park

On the northernmost tip of Michigan, in the town of Lachine, rests Beaver Lake County Park. Aptly named, Beaver Lake County Park is located on the shores of Beaver Lake, just 30 minutes from Atlanta, an hour east of Gaylord, and a stone’s throw from Alpena. The landscape consists of green, rolling hills and mature trees. The lush environment and lake provide a great habitat for wildlife to thrive.

Consider Beaver Lake County Park as a destination on your RV camping trip to the Great Lakes Region. Book an RV in Alpena County and see what the Midwest has in store for you.

Getting Outdoors

Many visitors flock here to experience the fishing at Beaver Lake County Park. Grab your gear from the motorhome rental and toss a line from the shore, from a canoe, or from the fishing pier. Bluegill, northern pike, and walleye are a few of the fish varieties you can catch in Beaver Lake.

Boating and swimming are a few more popular activities you can enjoy here. From the designated boat launch, accessing the water is easy. Paddle your kayak across calm, 700-acre Beaver Lake as the warm sun shines down. If it gets too hot, you can jump into the refreshing water to cool off.

Back on dry land, a hiking trail wraps around the lake, which is perfect for those looking to get their steps in. The trail is a 9.2-mile walk that offers a great view of the area. You get to experience the lake from all angles and see the vast array of wildlife that lives nearby. It's a really nice trail for birdwatching and taking the dog for a walk. For a little friendly competition, challenge your crew to a game of baseball or volleyball at the park's sports fields.

Camping at Beaver Lake County Park

RV camping at Beaver Lake County Park is an excellent way to enjoy the great outdoors. Beaver Lake County Park's RV campground offers around 50 campsites for you to choose from that all come standard with 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups to power all your devices and appliances. Other amenities include public restrooms, clean showers, and a playground for the kids. There's even a picnic area where campers can have a fun family get-together.

Campers have easy access to all the outdoor activities at Beaver Lake County Park right from their site. You can also purchase firewood and have a campfire at your own private fire ring. When it's time to clean up and hit the road again, the park has plenty of trash cans and a dump station for your RV waste. Well-behaved pets also are welcome at the campground.

Exploring the Area

With an RV rental in Beaver Lake County Park, you can travel around with ease. A short drive east to Alpena will land you at Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This museum is a top destination among visitors. Nicknamed “Shipwreck Alley”, this area has a tragic history of ships crashing on the rocks and sinking to the bottom of the bay. The museum allows visitors to experience these mammoths first hand and discover the amazing stories that go with them.

Looking to go for another place to go for a hike in the great outdoors? The Island Park & Wildlife Sanctuary is a great spot for the whole family while motorhome camping in Alpena County. Hop on one of the trails on this 17-acre island that lead you through a series of ecosystems offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The Thunder Bay River flows right through the sanctuary, creating a beautiful landscape to explore. You’ll find sand dunes, woodlands, and marshy areas worthy of a few photographs for the memory book.

If you happen to be vacationing in northern Michigan in the wintertime, look out for the famous Michigan Snowmobile Festival. One of the most popular events in the area, it's been an exciting time for snowmobile enthusiasts for many years. Events include fun runs, beer tents, fun vendors, cookoffs, and more. Bring along your warmest gear and your sense of adventure, and head up to Gaylord for the Annual Michigan Snowmobile Festival.

While there are no gas stations near the park, you’ll find a handful of them within a 30-minute drive. The same goes for restaurants; you have a limited selection nearby, but if you don’t mind a short drive, you’ll find a few within 30 minutes. There are a few American-style diners, some reliable chain restaurants, and the occasional Irish pub. Highway 75 is the closest major road at about 90 minutes to the west and can lead you north towards Canada, or south, back into the heart of Michigan.
