Discover Fair Haven Beach State Park

Getting Outdoors

Park your RV rental at Fair Haven Beach State Park to explore its towering shoreline bluffs, 1,500 feet of white sandy beach, and the adjoining hilly woodlands. Fair Haven Beach State Park's inland includes the centrally located Sterling Pond and Sterling Creek, which cover the transition between water and woods.

This is a great park to visit if you’re a fan of swimming and sunbathing. There is a guarded swim area on Lake Ontario, and the park features two beaches separated by a diving channel with two boards from which you can make a big splash into the inviting lake. The swimming season is usually from June through August.

While here you may want to spend a leisurely day on the water doing some fishing or boating, as there are plenty of opportunities available in Lake Ontario and the adjoining Little Sodus Bay. The park offers a boat launch (open year-round) and marina. You can rent a boat here as well, just be aware kayaks, canoes, and other watercraft are only for use on the inland Sterling Pond waterway.

No matter if water recreation is not your thing, there are many other ways to enjoy a motorhome camping trip on the shores of Lake Ontario. Hiking or biking enthusiasts will be able to trek around the nature trails during the warm season. The winter months are a popular time for snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, sledding, and ice fishing in various parts of the park and surrounding area.

Camping at Fair Haven Beach State Park

If you’re looking for a place to camp in an RV near Lake Ontario this state park is a great option. It offers three separate campgrounds and a cabin zone nestled within rolling woodlands. The Fair Haven Beach State Park camping area consists of 46 electric sites and 138 non-electric sites. Campground facilities include grills, restrooms with showers, and dumping stations.

This state park also includes a camp store and a concession stand should you need any last-minute supplies or snacks. Enjoy lovely views of the lake from the campsite and easy access to boat rentals with paddle boats, rowboats, kayaks, and canoes available to use on the Sterling Pond waterway.

You’re welcome to bring a maximum of two pets in the campsites and day-use areas as long as the doggies are supervised and leashed, just be aware there are certain areas on the premises your canine companions won’t be permitted. The camping season typically lasts from April through October although some loops/sites may open later or close earlier. You'll be able to reserve a site one day to nine months in advance.

Exploring the Area

There’s plenty of activities to keep you occupied right at Fair Haven Beach State Park. Eat outside at one of the park’s five picnic areas featuring picnic tables and pavilions. Discover this peaceful community’s charming shops and restaurants. Continue your road trip throughout the Finger Lakes region, stopping to enjoy local attractions including renowned wineries. You’ll be conveniently close to Rochester and Syracuse if you’re seeking a more urban experience.

Fans of history will definitely want to visit the Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, which is one of the nation's most extensively preserved country estates from the Victorian era. The Ganondagan State Historic Site is also worth a stop to see the location of a major 17th-century Iroquois town and its large granary.
