Fort Wilkins Historic State Park has a very unique location, situated on a narrow peninsula of land in Michigan, surrounded by the vast waters of Lake Superior and Lake Fanny Hooe. The park got its name from the historic fort, which sits within its grounds. It tells the story of life on the northern frontier during the mid-1800s. It became a stage park in 1923 when extensive development work and restoration began to take place.
