RV Rental Bewabic State Park, MI

Fringed by soft sand and a grassy foreshore, the beach is the main draw at Bewabic State Park. In the summer, locals flock to soak up the sunshine and splash in the shallows. The lake is also a great place to launch a canoe or kayak and enjoy a leisurely paddle. Cast a line and you could reel in perch, bass, walleye, and bluegill. Picnic tables dot the shoreline and are perfect for devouring fresh cherries, homemade pasties, double-baked rye bread, and other Michigan delicacies.

When you've had your fill of sun and sand, stretch your legs on the two-mile Bewabic Nature Trail. It winds through the park and takes you through the sun-dappled forest and scenic lakeshore. There are plenty of benches to catch your breath and enjoy the views along the way. Things don't slow down in the winter, when the snow-dusted trail is used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Another trail takes you over a CCC wooden footbridge and to a forested island.

Thanks to a series of Civilian Conservation Corps buildings, Bewabic State Park earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Most are still in use, including the historic "Wigwam" picnic shelter and log bathhouse. You'll also find well-maintained tennis courts built by the CCC in the 1930s. While Bewabic State Park welcomes most visitors in the summer, fall is a beautiful time to visit. Michigan is famous for its fall foliage, and Bewabic is no exception, with the park exploding in a sea of reds, yellows, browns, and golds.

The 129-site campground makes it easy to stay a spell at Bewabic State Park. It's set in a picturesque maple woodland and features three loops, with most sites enjoying plenty of shade and privacy. You're a short stroll from the day-use area, which makes it easy to access the sandy beach and boat launch area. The main camping area features a mix of 20, 30, and 50-amp hookups to keep you connected. If you have a larger RV rental, consider booking one of the pull-through sites, which are great for oversized rigs.

Modern bathroom blocks with toilets and hot showers mean you don't have to compromise on creature comforts when RV camping at Bewabic State Park. There are also potable water stations throughout the campground, as well as a sanitation station for RVs with services onboard. Like most popular state park RV campgrounds, it's best to book in advance, especially from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Camping at Bewabic State Park is a great excuse to explore Michigan's Upper Peninsula. For more gorgeous scenery, head to Horse Race Rapids, where a well-marked trail hugs the banks of the Menominee River and takes you to a series of cascading falls. In nearby Pentoga Park, you can discover the remains of an ancient Ojibwe burial ground or cool off in the crystalline water of Chicagon Lake.

In Caspian, the Iron County Museum offers a glimpse of the region's industrial heritage. Kids love checking out the working models of logging trucks and iron mines. There's also the world-famous Iron Mountain Iron Mine, where you can descend 400 feet into historic mining tunnels and learn about the role the mine played in powering the steel mills of the Midwest. After your tour, enjoy a traditional Cornish pasty, a local delicacy that was introduced to the iron mines of the Upper Peninsula by British immigrants in the 19th century.

Crystal Falls is a four-mile drive east and is a great place to stock up on gas and groceries. Get a feel for local history at the Harbor House Heritage Center Museum, located in a beautifully restored Queen Anne Colonial Revival manor. You can also duck into the lively cafes, bars, and restaurants strung along the main street. Marquette is one of the largest cities on the Upper Peninsula and is a great place to rent a camper near Bewabic State Park.
