Sunapee State Beach is situated near Newbury, New Hampshire, which is in the west-central portion of the state. The nearest larger town is Claremont, which is found around 15 miles to the west. The nearest larger city is Concord, the state's capital, at almost 40 miles to the east, while the state border with Massachusettes is around 50 miles to the south.
Sunapee State Beach sits on the southern shores of the large and long, Lake Sunapee. The park is surrounded by forested hills that are common to this part of the country. There are many different recreational activities available in the local region, from water sports in the summer to downhill skiing and other winter sports when the snow flies. This is a great place to visit at any time of the year.
Renting an RV at Sunapee State Beach will allow you to enjoy all the recreational activities it offers. The beach at the park is very popular during the warmer months. This is a great place to sunbathe or swim on the shallows along the lakeshore. There are shaded spots to place your picnic basket, or you can relax and read a book.
Lake Sunapee is another source of fun. Boating and fishing are, obviously, activities that can be enjoyed here. There are even a few small islands within the lake's boundaries that you can explore. There are a number of hiking and biking trails found near this body of water. Some skirt the lakeshore or meander throughout the forests that are near it, while others climb the nearby mountains. These can easily be enjoyed by snowshoe or cross-country skis in the winter. There are also some downhill ski resorts nearby, some of these allow mountain biking on their courses during the summer months.
There is a campground at Sunapee State Beach, though it is fairly small and only offers primitive campsites. Fortunately, if you're looking for options for camping with an RV that offers more amenities, there are other possibilities available nearby.
The campground at the park provides bathrooms, and it makes potable water available for guests. There is also playground equipment for kids, and pets are welcome here, as well. RV camping at Sunapee State Beach Park will provide the easiest access to all the activities available here. There are also a few gas stations and grocery stores in town, where you can refill supplies you find yourself running low on.
Crow's Nest campground is in Newport. It offers sites with varying hookups, as well as bathrooms, showers, and a laundry facility. There is also a pool and pond access, a mini-golf course, and a camp store on-site. Pets are welcome here, as well. A river runs near the camp, and some of the sites even offer water views.
When you book an RV in Merrimack County, you will find many unique places to visit nearby. This area is known for its covered bridges. Two that are available to view locally include the Pier and Corbin covered bridges, both in Newport, which is a little more than five miles west of the park. Both can still be explored, and they are known for their picturesque surroundings. State park RV camping puts you within easy reach of all the hidden gems that a local region offers.
The Fells is found near Sunapee State Beach. This was a family estate of a man who once worked with Abraham Lincoln and was Secretary of State under other presidents. Both the home and surrounding grounds are available for touring, including the gardens that bloom in-season. At certain times of the year, special events are held here, such as it being decorated with Christmas lights.
The Bell Cove Historic Caboose Museum is located in Newbury. Here you can tour an old car of the type that used to come at the end of every train. The history of the caboose and why it fell out of use is highlighted. There is also a small park here, that borders on the nearby lake, that can be enjoyed as well.
