Fishing is popular here, particularly as all of the Lake Durant Campground campsites are on the banks of the lake. Within the RV campground, you’ll find an accessible fishing pier and a boat ramp. The lake is stocked every year with around 1,300 tiger muskellunge, plus anglers can catch largemouth bass and yellow perch among other species. There are plenty of opportunities to fish from the more than six miles of shoreline, but getting out on a boat is also a good option. Boating is a peaceful pastime here as no motors are allowed on the lake. Limited numbers of canoes and rowboats can be hired at the campground, and it is recommended not to use anything larger, as the water is mostly shallow. There is a sandy swimming beach at Lake Durant, with lifeguards on duty during summer. Swimming is not permitted when the lifeguards are absent. There are plenty of opportunities to get out hiking from the campground. The well-known Northville-Placid Trail runs through the campground for a few miles and gives access to the full 42-mile route heading south or around 30 miles of hiking to the north. For something a little less strenuous, maybe the Cascade and Stephens Pond trail would be better? Starting from the western end of Lake Durant, the 8-mile out and back route takes you past two ponds, before finishing up at a third. There really is plenty to keep you occupied when you book an RV in Hamilton County, particularly if you love the great outdoors. During the winter, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing take over from the summer pursuits.
