Kernersville is a small town in Forsyth County, North Carolina. A small part of the town's 17.4 square miles is located in Guildford County, making it the perfect size for exploring on foot. Kernersville was originally named “Dobson's Crossroads” (after property owner William Dobson), with a single hotel, Dobson's Tavern, that served breakfast to George Washington in 1791. In 1817, the hotel and property were purchased by Joseph Kerner and it became known as “Kerner's Crossroads”. In 1873, after the railroad had arrived, the town was incorporated as “Kernersville”.
