Marion is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Oregon. The town may have been established in 1871 when a railroad from what would become Marion to Portland was completed. A post office was established in January of that same year and by the 1880s, there was a hotel, a sawmill, a tannery/livery stable, and a grain elevator. Most of the construction was on the east side of the tracks and south of the depot; a fire in the 1880s destroyed much of the town. The hotel was rebuilt following this on the west side of the train tracks.

Book an RV in Marion County, and you will be able to choose from a fleet of reliable RV vehicles perfectly suited to the Oregon countryside. There are a few cities that are also interesting and worth spending some time in. Aumsville was the scene of a 2010 tornado in which fortunately no one was hurt. Sweet Home is occasionally referred to as the "Gateway to the Santiam Playground" because it is near several lakes, rivers, and the Cascade Mountains. Vida is home to one of the longest covered bridges in Oregon, the Goodpasture Bridge, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (it was added in 1979). Lowell has a post office that has been in continuous operation since 1883. Your Marion travel trailer rental is your RSVP to explore this unique landscape in person.

The Great Outdoors

Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge was opened in 1965 as part of a larger refuge complex providing shelter for migratory waterfowl and other bird and mammal species. Part of its nature management strategy is working with local farmers who plant crops that the migratory birds can feed on. It is an excellent destination for photographers and nature lovers and has a system of boardwalk and dirt trails, and viewing platforms. The boardwalks are open year-round, other park areas are closed during the winter to protect the wintering bird species.

Silver Falls State Park is located in the foothills of Oregon's Cascade Mountain Range and is one of the largest and most popular parks in the state. Guests can go mountain biking or horseback riding, or enjoy the day-use area with its picnic shelters and tables, barbecue stands, and more. One of the hiking trails leads to not one but many waterfalls, one of which visitors can walk behind. Pets on a leash are allowed on some but not all of the trails. Pets are allowed in the day-use area.

Santiam State Forest is a managed outdoor recreation area that balances wildlife habitat with public recreation and timber production. The forest is a paradise of Douglas fir and hemlock trees, waterfalls, and rocky peaks reaching as much as 5,000 feet in elevation. It is broken up into several large and small blocks of land, providing visitors with miles of hiking trails and park lakes, streams, and caves. Primitive camping is allowed within the park. Keep your Marion camper rental nearby and combine outdoor adventure with the comforts of home, enjoying the best of both worlds.
