Named for a famed soldier and politician from Rhode Island, this seaside park has an equestrian area, hiking and biking trails, swimming beaches, canoeing and kayaking spots, picnic areas, and plenty of space to observe beautiful migratory birds. A performing arts center in the park stokes the fires of creativity by hosting performances and concerts during the warmer months. Meshanticut State Park is close to Goddard Memorial State Park, with some more stellar views and its very own fishing/swimming pond. Summer isn’t the only time to visit though, with lots of winter-based activities like cross-country skiing and ice skating when the pond freezes over each year. If you can’t get enough of the ocean, Colt State Park is a surefire bet to see some of the best landscapes and seascapes in the state. At Colt State Park, there is a wheelchair-accessible fishing area, picnic spots, trails for hiking and biking, and a gorgeous chapel on the water’s edge.
