There are many tranquil state parks worth visiting when you rent an RV near Fort Worth. If you're looking for a park close to the center of the city, consider Cedar Hill State Park. This park is located just south of Fort Worth and consists of prairies, woodlands, and rugged hills surrounding the 7,500-acre Joe Pool Lake, providing respite from the bustling city streets. The lake is ideal for swimming or casting a line, and anglers can expect to reel in crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish. If you'd prefer to explore the area around the lake, several miles of hiking and biking trails weave across 1,200 acres within the park. If you'd prefer to explore a lakeside park away from the city, consider visiting Cleburne State Park. Just 40 minutes' drive south of Bear Creek Campground, this state park features marshes and forests encircling the 116-acre Cedar Lake. This peaceful lake is ideal for making a splash, and you can kayak, canoe, and swim in the lake. Fishing is also popular, and there's a fishing pier so you can access deeper water with ease. There are lots of hiking trails too, with over 13 miles of pathways that meander through the woodlands and along the lake. While walking, watch out for local bird species, including green-winged teals, great egrets, and American kestrels. Alternatively, you might want to mix in some natural history with your outdoor adventures. Dinosaur Valley State Park is an hour's drive south of Fort Worth. It's made up of dense woodlands along White Bluff Creek and is well known for the many ancient dinosaur tracks found throughout the park. Visitors can follow these fantastic pieces of history along the river with 20 miles of trails to explore. The river is also suitable for swimming and fishing, and while exploring the area, be on the lookout for local birds, including white-winged doves, belted kingfishers, and red-bellied woodpeckers.
