Texas summers sure are hot, so it’s best to know where all the good watering holes are located if you find yourself traveling through the Lone Star State in your camper rental. Eagle Mountain Lake claims to be one of the best northern Texas destinations for those who want a lakeside retreat. Sitting just north of Fort Worth and sandwiched between Lake Bridgeport and Lake Worth, this location is perfect for those who might like to lake-hop and enjoy an evening on the town.

Search for an RV in Tarrant County, TX, to experience this 8,694-acre lake for yourself. Though deemed a lake, Eagle Mountain Lake is actually a reservoir caused by damming the West Fork of the Trinity River. The approval and construction for the damming process began in 1928. Eagle Mountain Lake’s eastern shore even served as the Marine Corps Air Station military instillation for their glider program during World War II. Nowadays, the lake is primarily used for recreation, offering much-needed reprieve from the Texas heat.

Getting Outdoors

Traveling to Eagle Mountain Lake via rental RV means double and triple-checking that you’ve packed all necessary water gear. Whether you prefer lounging on the shore soaking up the rays or swimming out as far as is allowed, you’re sure to leave a little tanner than you arrived. In fact, it’s recommended that you definitely get in the water here. The lake is in fabulous condition and is noted for its scenic location in Tarrant County.

Boating happens to be another popular way to get out to the deeper sections of the lake. Jumping in this far out eliminates the risk of your toes skimming the bottom. There are a handful of marinas available for boat launches if you happen to have your own or check out a few ways to rent some. Eagle Mountain Lake campers and locals alike sure like to have fun. Those with boats can reach what’s known as the Party Cove for a casual social gathering of chatter and beverages.

For those with children, there are three parks around Eagle Mountain Lake for a safe way to explore and play. Two of the parks, Eagle Mountain and Twin Points, are located in Fort Worth. Eagle Mountain has free entry and is primarily a hiking spot away from the water. There are five miles of well-manicured trails with six separate paths. The Overlook is the final destination with views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Twin Points is a beach spot that does have a small vehicle entrance fee. This beautiful nook is popular, so maybe check the crowds before committing. The third park, Shady Grove, is located on the southwest side of the lake in Azle. The free 24-acre park features a nicely shaded playground, softball fields, tennis courts, and a public swimming area.

So, no matter yours or you travel companion’s preferred activity; you’re sure to find something to spend your time while camping at Eagle Mountain Lake.
