The trail will take walkers from the shores of the lake, past the mouth of Gabriel River and up onto the Comanche Bluff. From the highest point hikers are treated to some of the most breathtaking views of Granger Lake and the surrounding foothills.

Camping At Granger Lake

There are a few choices for Granger Lake campers when deciding which campground to choose. Located directly on Granger Lake’s southern shore is Taylor Park Campground. This campsite has partial hookups that include 20 amp electric and water. The site also provides a dump station and shower facilities.

Traveling a little further down the lake campers will arrive at Wilson H. Fox Park. This campsite offers 20, 30 and 50 amp electric and water hookups, as well as sites for big rigs. A dump station, restroom and shower facilities are also provided at Wilson H. Fox Park. With fire rings, picnic tables and a pet-friendly policy, this campground is ideal for those camping with families.

If you would prefer to camp in an RV near Georgetown, a short drive from Granger Lake, then Shady Tree RV Park is the site for you. Catering to RVs only, this site covers all the basic camping amenities.

Exploring The Area

Those looking for a day trip filled with excitement and adventure should head to Inner Space Cavern in Georgetown, only a short drive from Granger Lake. This huge underground cave system was discovered in the 1960s during plans to build a highway overpass. Now visitors arrive every year to lower themselves into the labyrinthine underworld. Guides will lead groups into the caves to view the amazing rock formations, inner caverns, and mesmerizing stalactites and stalagmites. Inner Space Cavern is must-see for any keen adventurer.

Only a thirty-minute drive north from Granger Lake will take you to the city of Temple. Temple is home to Lions Junction Family Water Park, a great location to take the whole family for the day. Complete with two huge swimming pools, both with their own set of diving boards, there is something here for those lovers of the water. This water park also has a splash zone, splash pad, and threes story water slide. With an in house restaurant and plenty to occupy the children, Lions Junction Family Water Park is a great location for families and those with small children.

An hour drive south will take campers to the Texas capital of Austin. Austin offers multiple opportunities for days trips and entertainment. For the art lovers among you, head to the Blanton Museum of Art. This museum is one of the largest university art museums in the U.S. with 189,340 square feet devoted to temporary exhibitions and permanent collection galleries. With vast collections of artwork spanning numerous styles and eras, there is something here for both keen art enthusiasts and art newbies alike.
