The "Home of Sam Houston" is a midsize city amidst the tall pines of East Texas. You won't have trouble finding it on Interstate 45: Just look for the 77-foot statue of the first elected president of the Republic of Texas (among his many accomplishments) who is buried in the town's Oakwood Cemetery. Houston, the city, is a 90-minute drive away.

A Larger Than Life Outdoor Experience in East Texas

The Sam Houston National Forest covers more than 163,000 acres of multiple-use zones (which include areas for timber and grazing). Still, there is plenty left for recreation like hiking, fishing, and boating. Find the best Huntsville RV rental by owner and test your mettle on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, a three-section trail spanning 128 miles.

Where to Park Your RV

Because of its location on the fringes of the Sam Houston National Forest, Huntsville has a handful of campgrounds suitable for RVs and motorhomes. Most have full hookup sites, showers, and restrooms, like campgrounds found in New Waverly, and Willis farther out. If all you need is a place to take a shower and spend the night, the sole truck stop in Huntsville might be an attractive option.

Up Close and Personal with (the Home of) Sam Houston

Befitting its status as the home of one of the Lone Star State's biggest heroes, Huntsville teems with attractions whatever your interest. Whether you're a history buff, an art aficionado, or an antique lover, you won't be lacking in things to do when in Huntsville.

Highly recommend using Katelyn and the team at Convenience RV in Wilis, TX. Although we ran into a few mechanical issues like the check engine, ABS and Service Trac Light being on, we still had an amazing experience with renting the 2024 Chateau 31EV. The RV can sleep up to 7 comfortably but technically you can pack up to 10 people if 2 sleep in the overhead and 2 sleep on both the dinette set and convertible couch. Katelyn. was responsive to my texts and pick up and drop off were easy easy!
