Discover Lake Holbrook RV rentals for memorable road trips

After repeated flooding of the fledgling town of Mineola, TX, the local government realized there was a need to implement controls. A dam on a nearby river was created in 1962, and as a result, Lake Holbrook was formed. Though its original purpose was solely for flood regulation, the locals quickly realized the advantages of having a nearby lake and adopted Lake Holbrook for recreational purposes.

Getting Outdoors

Though Lake Holbrook is a small lake, encompassing around 700 acres, the wide-open sky and low, flatlands surrounding the lake makes it seem much larger. The water is so clear that on a calm day, the bottom, which is around 30 feet, is visible. Tall hardwoods and conifers line the shore, casting some shade to the coves and inlets in the early mornings and late evenings. These coves and inlets often have submerged trees, cattails, pickerelweed, and water willow, which many fish use for cover and source of food. A popular fishing spot for the local fishermen, largemouth bass is the favored fish. White and black crappie and channel catfish are plentiful, and though bluegill and redear sunfish can be caught, they are not as abundant nor large in size.

Camping at Lake Holbrook

When you rent an RV for your adventure, be sure to figure out where you’ll park it while you grab some Zs or go exploring. Though there is no camping at Lake Holbrook, there are several options in the area. Jellystone in Tyler was named the 2018 Facility of the Year by Leisure Systems. This award-winning RV camping resort features activities, and games like laser tag, gem mining, and arts and crafts. Every afternoon, guests can hop onto a hay wagon for a leisurely trot around the camp. This park isn’t just for the kids. There are two swimming pools, and one is set aside for adults.

Exploring the Area

In the Frontier era, it took weeks, or even months to travel from town to town. Some of these same towns are still standing today, though the travel time is cut down to minutes or hours with the help of a rental motorhome. Grand Saline, TX, boasts several attractions. The site of a massive salt mine, the Salt Palace, which is both a roadside attraction and a museum, is built out of actual salt blocks. The palace exhibits various mining artifacts and memorabilia. Every visitor can take home a salt crystal as a souvenir. The town also hosts an annual Salt Festival, usually in early June. The festival has been held since the mid-70s, and it continues to draw thousands of visitors. Though the events vary each year, the festival traditionally chooses a “salt queen,” holds music concerts, and conducts a parade through the town.

We had another wonderful trip with Jayson's trailer. The layout of his trailer is our favorite. There was a small leak on the bathroom handle and the batteries are having trouble working so don't expect to boondock. I am sure he will fix it. He cares about his trailer because it is well maintained. He put in a new door lock and we love the new system!
We can't wait to take his trailer out again. Do not hesitate to rent this one.
