Austin State Park is located 50 miles southwest on the Brazos River. Head north for about an hour in the Magnolia camper rental and you’ll arrive at Huntsville State Park, near Huntsville. The 82-foot John Jacob Observation Tower provides unparalleled views of the park’s lake and surrounding wetlands. The park is near to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site and the Battleship Texas State Historic Site, which are both well worth a detour.
Slightly farther out is Lake Livingston State Park, which is one of largest lakes in Texas, noted for its population of white bass. There are two fish cleaning stations, bank fishing, three boat ramps and a pier.
