On the eastern edge of central Texas, the town of Milano offers rural, small-town Texas charm mixed with a little bit of Great Plains and a dash of the Texas Hill Country. In 1874, the railroad set up a depot at what would become Milano. As the railroads grew, so did the population as they flocked to claim farmland in the region for easy access to the railroads. Visitors to Milano can still expect to see some of the agricultural sides of Milano. However, visitors to Milano are also often looking for a little more exposure to the Texas wilderness. With its relatively central location in the state, just a short drive in just about any direction will get you into a completely different region of Texas. You can continue west for the rocky terrain of the Hill Country, east for the tranquility of the piney woods, or north for the Great Plains.
