Sandy Creek Park RV Campground

When you book an RV in Travis County, you've opened the door to vacation with plenty to see and do. The campground is on the shores of Lake Travis, with a swimming area just a short walk from the campsites, although bear in mind that no lifeguards are on duty. Next to the beach is a public boat ramp, giving easy access to the water, plus there is a short hiking trail that runs along the edge of the lake, with lovely views out over the water. This is one of the quieter parks on the lake, making it an excellent location for some peaceful fishing. Either from the shore or on your own boat, the lake is good for catching largemouth, white and Guadalupe bass, plus sunfish. Stripped bass and crappie can also be found but in fewer numbers. The Colorado River feeds Lake Travis, and all along the river south of the park, are opportunities to take to the water. You can rent a boat and explore all the creeks and coves, maybe try your hand at scuba diving, or have a go at water skiing. Should you prefer to discover some of the natural wildlife of the area, then just to the northwest is the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge covers around 72 square miles and was created in 1992 to help preserve the habitat for the golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo, both of which are endangered, along with over 200 other species of bird. To help you spot the birds, the refuge has over seven miles of well-marked hiking trails, from the short half-mile half-mile Pond and Prairie trail to the 2.2-mile Rimrock Trail that offers spectacular views over the surrounding Texas Hill Country. The park rangers organize regular events during the year to help you learn about the refuge, and they are often free for kids. A little closer to the east of Sandy Creek Park is the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park. Covering over 800 acres, the park offers sports facilities, hiking trails, fishing in a small pond, and picnic facilities. The kids will love a trip on the Cedar Rock Miniature Railroad, that takes you around the park grounds.
