Getting Outdoors
Arranging for a rental RV in the area and traveling up to Sheep Creek Lake will take you through windy mountain roads, some of which are part of the Sheep Creek Scenic Drive. This drive is a fun way to see the area on your way to the lake, where you’ll be able to enjoy the great outdoors. There are a lot of trails that surround the lake, so after you reach your destination, you’ll be able to explore more on foot, scaling nearby mountains on rugged trails taking you as high as 9,000 feet and more.
Camping at Sheep Creek Lake
The Sheep Creek Lake campground is extremely primitive, but it is certainly one of the closest campgrounds to the lake as you’ll be camping on the shore. There are over approximately 20 spots for RVs at this campground. However, the only amenities you’ll have are those that you bring with you. When you want more amenities to spruce up your trip, head to the nearby state park RV campgrounds at Browne Lake.
Exploring the Area
Given Sheep Creek Lake’s isolated mountain location, it should be no surprise that the closest towns in the region are more than a short drive away. The town of Red Canyon, which is almost directly east of the lake, is one of the closest towns but has little to offer in the way of restaurants and shops. It is, however, a fantastic place to stop when you are heading into the mountains and need some last-minute supplies or to top up your gas tank. There are a few small restaurants, but for a greater selection, you’ll have to travel south to a town like Vernal.
