Getting Outdoors

With about 368 acres of untouched great outdoors, you’ll be spoilt for choice over what to do while RV camping at Clarksburg State Park. If you’re into night photography, you’re in luck as the minimal light pollution in the area makes for some pretty good sky shots.

Clarksburg State Park is a hiking hotspot, so be sure to bring along a pair of your favorite hiking boots, as 9.5 miles of trails are spread out all around the pond. The 3-mile long Pond Loop Trail is also particularly popular among birdwatchers.

Throughout the summer, Mausert's Pond attracts fishermen from far and wide due to its amazing fishing opportunities. Pickerel, pumpkinseed, and perch are available in plenty in the shallow waters. The 45-acre lake is also used for canoeing and kayaking.

Camping at Clarksburg State Park

Camping in a rental motorhome at Clarksburg State Park is a nice way to experience the old fashioned style of camping since there are not any hookups provided. The perks of camping at Clarksburg State Park, however, include access to plenty of recreational trails. Campers are also rewarded with stunning views of the northern hardwood forest covering the Berkshire Hills as well as the Green Mountains.

Don’t forget to pack a fishing rod into your RV as the campground is situated within walking distance to Mausert's Pond, a prime spot for fishing, swimming, and canoeing. Coming to facilities, the RV campground offers restrooms, showers, and picnic areas. There is a central water spigot, and firewood is provided.

Keep in mind that black bears do pop up once in a while, so make good use of the provided storage lockers to avoid unwanted visitors. Pets are allowed, and unlike most campgrounds, there is a limit of four pets per campsite. Be sure to keep the pets on a leash at all times. A recent rabies certificate is also required check-in.

Exploring the Area

The best thing about renting an RV for your Clarksburg State Park camping trip is that then you’ll be free to visit towns all across Western Massachusetts, Vermont, or even venture as far as Catskill in New York. The city of Springfield in Massachusetts is a nice place to start your tour. Did you know that Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel, was born in Springfield? Reminisce on the many wonderful books he wrote while enjoying a stroll at the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden.

Established under General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, the Springfield Armory National Historic Site is dedicated to preserving the stormy past of the Springfield Armory and its effort of providing the United States Military with superior weapons throughout the years, by the power of innovative engineering. The historic site is set on the original buildings of what was once the nation’s first armory. It is also home to the country’s largest collection of historic firearms.

Should you have a day or two to spare, point your Clarksburg camper rental past Williamstown towards Albany for a chance to explore New York’s state capital, Albany. Start by getting your gradients at The Corning Tower Observation Deck, which is situated on the 42nd story of Corning Tower, the tallest building in New York State that isn’t in New York City.

Don’t hop back into your rental RV and leave without passing by the New York State Museum. Founded in 1836, the museum boasts of being the largest and oldest state museum in the country. Situated in downtown Albany, the research-backed museum is dedicated to the cultural and natural history of the state of New York. It would be nice noting that there is a carousel on the fourth floor in case the kids tagged along. The museum is free, but donations are welcomed.
