Just outside of Seattle, WA lies the beautiful island of Vashon. Surrounded by plenty of water, this island is perfect for swimmers, anglers, and water sports in the summer months. Way back in the 1700s, Captain George Vancouver of the British Royal Navy named the island after his friend James Vashon. Back then, Vashon was mostly used as a base for fishing and logging. The abundance of trees made it a huge source of wood in the area.
Although there is an airport on the island of Vashon, it doesn't have any regularly scheduled flights. The best way to get on and off the island is via ferry. There are plenty of docks around the island to take you to Seattle and the surrounding cities. If relaxing on a secluded island surrounded by sparkling waters sounds nice to you, then book an RV in Vashon and head out on the vacation of a lifetime.
Since Vashon is just one of the cities on Vashon Island, there's a whole lot more activity going on outside the city limits. Since it's on an island, drive your Vashon RV rental about three miles southeast and you can go swimming at KVI Beach. Bring your fishing pole, because there's a ton of fishing and boating going on here. If you just want to relax on the beaches, bring your suntan lotion and release all that stress from the workday.
Take your Vashon motorhome rental down two miles to Bicycle Tree to see one of the most interesting things around. It's exactly what it sounds like, a bicycle stuck in a tree. Now, this might not sound super exciting, that is until you see it for yourself. It's an old rusted bike that a tree has grown around. Multiple hiking trails, trees to climb, and, of course, biking trails surround Bicycle Tree to make it one of the most exciting outdoor excursions on the island.
A five-mile drive south in your Vashon camper rental will take you to Burton Acres Park. Here you can go on beautiful hikes through endless trees. Wildlife viewing is a simple look over the next hill, or up into the tree. This park is teeming with all kinds of amazing species of animals waiting for you to discover them. You can also go horseback riding or take a simple stroll down the walking trails.
You can take your Vashon RV rental 25 miles away to Gig Harbor to find the Gig Harbor RV Resort. They offer plenty of amenities that you can take advantage of such as Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and playgrounds for the kids. If you choose to go to the beach, it's only a couple minutes away down the walking paths. There are also options for daily, weekly, and monthly sites depending on your preferences.
Fifteen miles away from Vashon in Port Orchard you can find a Walmart Supercenter. You may be able to use their parking lot for a quick stay overnight. Be sure to talk to the manager on duty to request permission to do so prior to spending the night in any Walmart parking lot.
Down just south of Vashon lies Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. It sits in the city of Tacoma and it has all kinds of exciting animal exhibits to explore. You can visit the Red Wolf Woods or go into one of the many aquariums they have to offer. There's even a gift shop to keep the memories with you and your kids forever.
Rent an RV in Vashon and stay within the city limits to view the Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum. At the museum, you can view the unique history of Vashon Island and find out how it came to be such a well-known location for tourists and locals alike. They also have the key pieces that explain the culture behind the Natives of the area, as well as the stories that led to the British Royal Navy seizing it for their logging and fishing expeditions. Every once in a while, a unique piece turns up to alter what we know about the island, so keep an eye out and head on over if you love history.
Hanging out in the city of Vashon is also very exciting. They have all kinds of farm-to-table restaurants and comfort food to keep you full. You can also stop at one of the many gas stations to fuel up your RV rental in Vashon. There are also a couple of thrift shops to find those once-in-a-lifetime treasures that only thrift shops have.
