The campground at Little Ocmulgee State Park offers around 55 campsites, some with full hookups for your RV, a few pull-thru sites and the remainder offer an electrical connection. The campground can cater for large rental RVs, pets are allowed, and there is WiFi available. There is full coverage for most mobile networks, and cable TV hookup is available. Part of the park offers a Lodge and championship golf course that offers a range of additional facilities, including a swimming pool and a miniature golf course if the full course is too challenging! Close to the sandy beach and swimming area is also a splash pad.

The nearest town of McRae-Helena, just to the southwest, has all your basic needs, such as a gas station, supermarkets and a range of restaurants, including Chinese, American, and Italian. With these local facilities, close-by, camping at Little Ocmulgee State Park is very easy and convenient. McRae-Helena has its very own Statue of Liberty! In the downtown area, in Liberty Square, you’ll find a replica that is 35 feet tall, one-twelfth of the original in New York. It was constructed from a stump taken from a nearby swamp, with the addition of some styrofoam and of all things, a linesman’s glove! Also here is the old fire station bell, to represent the Liberty Bell. West of the park is the town of Cordele, home to the SAM Shortline Historic Railroad. The railroad operates classic 1940s vintage cars, giving a taste of travel from that era. The route takes you from Cordele, stopping at several stations along the way, including Plains, the home of President Jimmy Carter. The railroad operates a special service to allow you to visit the Jimmy Carter Museum. The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site Museum remembers the 39th President of the USA by preserving several sites, including his home, boyhood farm and the train depot that served as his campaign office. There is also a visitor center and museum, housed in the Plains High School that both Jimmy and his wife Rosalynn attended. To the northwest is the town of Vidalia and just a short drive when you rent an RV near Little Ocmulgee State Park. The town holds the Vidalia Onion Festival every April to celebrate the harvest of Georgia’s official state vegetable. Along with the Miss Vidalia Onion Pageants, a carnival and of course cooking with onions, there is live entertainment and fireworks. The festival has been listed as one of the top five events in the southeast and is a great family event. In the town of Fitzgerald, to the southeast of the park is the Jefferson Davis Memorial. This state historical site marks the spot where Confederate President Jefferson Davis was captured and taken prisoner by Union forces in 1865. Davis was on his way to unite rebel forces but didn’t realize his pursuers were so close behind. There is a museum on the 13-acre site along with a monument, a short nature trail, and a gift shop.
