There are several RV campgrounds on Salamonie Lake, operated by the DNR Division of State Parks. Collectively, the campgrounds have several hundred campsites, a small number of which are primitive. The campgrounds have several dump stations, some comfort stations, and a long list of amenities that includes a fishing pier, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds, a swimming beach, and more. You can waterski on the lake, go canoeing or kayaking, hike the nearby forest trails, have a picnic, or enjoy a variety of other activities. Another place to camp near Salamonie Lake is Art's Country Park in North Manchester. It's a full-service RV campground with a long list of amenities. The campground is pet-friendly and has restrooms, shower facilities, a dump station, and a general store. The internal roads are gravel, and the campsites have back-in or pull-through access, full hookups, and plenty of room for slideouts.

Some of the cities surrounding Salamonie Lake are worth visiting while you're here. Huntington is a relatively large town with numerous attractions; there are opportunities to go shopping, explore nature parks, zoom through a recreation area on a zipline, and take in a show at a dinner theater, and that's just for starters. The city has a winery and several museums and a picturesque garden park. Another of its parks focuses on the historic forks of the Wabash, and one of its landmark sites is Platt Arena, a renowned venue for college basketball. Marion is a larger town with quite a few outdoor landmarks, including a memorial to James Dean, a riverwalk, and an amusement/water park. Marion's restaurant scene is reasonably priced, so you can dine out all you want. Bust out of quiet rural life and head to the bustling city of Fort Wayne for some big-city sightseeing. Families can spend some time at Science Central, with interactive exhibits, playspaces, and live presentations. The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is another excellent kid-friendly attraction. Check out exotic critters like African lions and capuchin monkeys, hop on a train ride, or feed resident goats while you're here. Cultural sites to tour include the Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum, the African/African-American Historical Museum, and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Catch views from the water with a riverboat tour or observe some of the city's history at the Allen County Courthouse.
