Ouabache State Park is located in the state of Indiana and offers an ideal getaway for a motorhome camping trip. Covering over 1100 acres, the state park is located on the outskirts of Bluffton, and achieved state park status in 1983. Before that, it was referred to as the Ouabache State Recreation Area. Named Ouabache, which is the Miami word for Wabash and translates to ‘pure white,’ the state park is known for the popular Wabash River that flows through it. Another highlight of the park that attracts visitors is the viewing of American Bison; the Ouabache State Park is one of the few parks where you get to view American Bison up close.

Originally inhabited by the Native Americans in the 1830s and 1840’s, the area was then taken over for farming purposes that led to large-scale land erosion. It was thereafter returned to a more natural setting by the Civilian Corps of Engineers and turned into a state recreation area. It’s a good idea to consider renting an RV to travel around the area; you’ll find affordable RV rentals in Wells County. Not too far from the Ouabache State Park is the city of Fort Wayne that you can include a visit to on your vacation.
