Perhaps the best thing about the park is the simple fact that it is located in northern Michigan. The seasons greatly affect the region positively hence opening up a long list of new activities now and then, offering you the "Pure Michigan" experience. If you’re feeling too macho for the one-mile hiking trail in the park, the neighboring Gaylord State Forest Area is a utopia of trails. The three-mile-long Deadman’s Hill Pathway is perfect for an afternoon hike with your better half. Boaters will be delighted to see the well-built boat ramp but even more exciting is the inland waterway that links Burt Lake to Mullett Lake, which further extends over to Black Lake and Lake Huron. With so many lake options, you could enjoy breakfast at Indianville, lunch at Topinabee, and supper at Mackinaw City. Not having a boat does not mean that you’ll have to miss out as there are a couple of marinas in the area that rent boats. When the sun gets a little bit too hot, the beach at Burt Lake State Park would be a nice place to take a dip. Spanning more than 2000 feet, the day use sandy beach is also just as good for shoreline fishing. An advantage that anglers have is the option to switch between Burt Lake and the Sturgeon River. During the winter, you’ll love snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the non-groomed trails.
