Adelanto is a city in San Bernardino County, California; its name means “progress” or “advance” in Spanish. It was first established with the opening of a post office of the same name in 1917. In more recent times, it was heavily reliant on George Air Force Base as its major employer, but that base closed in 1992. It struggled but has managed to survive. It is a quiet, sleepy town, the perfect place to catch a good night's sleep before striking out into the High Desert the next day. Your Adelanto travel trailer rental is your guarantee that a good night's sleep will be had.

Search for an RV in San Bernardino County and you are one step closer to an important part of Californian, and American, history. Other nearby towns that are also interesting and unique might be worth paying a visit to. Barstow's Main Street, which was part of the original Route 66, still houses historical buildings from that era. Apple Valley doesn't have any apples (today) but had an abundance of apple orchards in the 1920s. The Great Depression of the 1930s made irrigation of the orchards difficult to impossible and the orchards died off as a result. Redlands was surrounded by 15,000 acres of citrus groves in the 1930s, most of which have been replaced by subdivisions (2,500 acres of the groves still exist today). Rosamond is the hub of Aerospace Valley (Edwards Air Force Base and a civilian spaceport at Mojave). Littlerock is part of Los Angeles County and has had four times as many natural disasters as the national average. Hitting the open road in an Adelanto motorhome rental is your assurance that these destinations will be reached.

The Great Outdoors

Alpine Butte Wildlife Sanctuary is a desert park on the southern edge of Alpine Butte. This granite rock formation dates back to the Mesozoic period and is an archeological treasure containing the fossils of dinosaurs, marine life, and flying reptiles. Guests are welcome to hike the park, which is open from sunrise to sunset; they should expect to see more rock formations, small sand dunes, creosote bush scrub, and Joshua trees (some of the biggest trees in this region). Animal residents include the desert tortoise, sidewinder rattlesnakes, Zebra-tailed lizards, and more. Remember to bring lots of water.

Jackrabbit Flat Wildlife Sanctuary is named after the black-tailed jackrabbits that inhabit the area; at first sight, the rabbits are mistaken for foxes or coyotes, at least until they jump 20 feet in a single bound. The sanctuary plant life includes Joshua tree woodlands, creosote bush scrub, and a wide variety of cacti. The park is open from sunrise to sunset; guests can hike the trails, observe the resident animals, or involve themselves in guided plant and nature walks, or any combination of the three.

Domenic Massari Park is an urban cultivated park with a soccer field, a baseball diamond, and a skate park. This is a good destination for pleasant walks, with or without your dog, nature watching, or just simply relaxing over a picnic lunch or dinner.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds within a close distance of Adelanto. Many of these parks have restrooms and showers, Wi-Fi, and pools. Most of them have sites with full hookups, pull-through and big rig access, and welcome children and pets. Camping here with an Adelanto camper rental is the perfect addition to these welcoming campgrounds.

Adelanto RV Park is close to retail stores, making it easy to stock up on supplies. The park has some long-term residents but also offers nightly and weekly rates.

Desert Willow RV Resort has laundry facilities, a hot tub (in addition to a pool), and a security gate with entry codes. The sites have gravel pads and guests can obtain propane at the park. It is close to gas stations and other amenities. Some of the guests are long-term residents.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to do in and around Adelanto. There are museums, some of which are historical; one in particular traces the history of Route 66. Baseball fans will want to take in a game at the local stadium; the no-frills games are relatively inexpensive and viewers can purchase beer by the pitcher. The skate center offers air-conditioned fun, but if air conditioning isn't that important, try the golf course for more fresh air and scenic views. Trees along the fairways will keep the game interesting. Cinemas, shopping malls, and a fun center mean there is something for everyone. Remember that this area is part of the famous Route 66; hitting the open road in your Adelanto RV trailer rental is how you will remember it for a long time.

As dusk approaches, you will want to start thinking about where to dine. Adelanto has a mix of commercial venues and locally owned and operated restaurants, meaning that everyone will be happy. Available cuisines include Asian, Chinese, Italian and Mexican (in addition to homespun American food). Diners at one Thai restaurant can expect to be greeted with a bowl of cashews when the menus are delivered; portions are huge and the prices reasonable. Be sure to try the Panang curry.

This is your vacation and sometimes the best meals are the simplest, prepared by you in your Adelanto luxury RV rental according to your taste. Supplies can be found at one of several grocery stores and the menu is only limited by your curiosity. Bon appetite!
