The park is mostly undeveloped, giving visitors a chance to spend some time away from civilization. Hiking trails meander along the shore, leading to soft meadows, scenic bluffs, and long stretches of sandy beach. Climb to one of the hilltops and witness the stunning panoramic views of the ocean – bringing a camera is definitely a great idea. If you don’t want to pick a specific park to visit, head down to Pfeiffer Beach and dig your feet into its pinkish sand. On the slopes of Santa Lucia Mountains, it will provide adventurous spirits with a chance to climb their peaks and get a bird's-eye perspective on the magnificent gorge of the Big Sur River. Members of the fauna don’t fall short – wildlife viewers can see black-tailed deer, gray squirrels, and bobcats, to mention only a few of the species inhabiting the park. Not all the amazing natural places of the region are located on the coast – exciting RV camping adventures are also waiting inland, at Pinnacles National Park. An extraordinary landscape created by the lava flow coming from ancient volcanoes is waiting for you in this giant oasis. Tens of miles of hiking trails cut through the park, varying from easy hikes to challenging ones that might take you all day to complete. The towering rock formations provide great opportunities for rock climbing, and if you want to disappear underground for a while, enter one of the two talus caves located in the park. Another interesting activity is bird watching – if you are lucky, you will see condors, falcons, and vultures in their natural habitat.
