Georgetown in eastern California sits within El Dorado County, not far from the state capital of Sacramento. A registered California Historical Landmark, anyone passionate about history will want to rent an RV in Georgetown to explore the area's vibrant past.

Named after one of its founders, George Phipps, Georgetown is known for its history of gold mining, particularly during the gold rush. This is where its nickname of ‘Growlersburg’ comes from, for the large gold nuggets that “growled” in the miners' pans. Forming part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the town enjoys a Mediterranean type climate during the summer months. It is also surrounded by beautiful landscapes, which has made it a popular skiing destination and one suited to growing vines for wine production. Larger neighboring cities include Auburn and the county seat of Placerville to the south of the town.
