The Great Outdoors

Rent an RV in Guinda and drive to Mendocino National Forest. It’s proud to be the only national forest in California without a highway or major road passing through its boundaries. The 900,000-acre area is made up of a combination of meadows, lakes, and canyons; it’s the perfect place to find some peace in the great outdoors. The park is separated into three rangers districts and contains four designated wilderness areas. You can park your vehicle in Stonyford and hike into Snow Mountain Wilderness Area which crosses the summit of the North Coast Range. The area hosts 40 miles of trails which are suitable for both hiking and horseback riding. Thanks to the range of elevations, visitors can also find a range of flora within the forest, including oak and conifer woodlands and chaparral shrubs. During the springtime, the meadows of Mendocino are filled with golden eardrops, Indian paintbrush, and a mixture of colorful monkey flowers.

Travel east from Sacramento via Highway 50 in your Guinda RV rental and you’ll soon arrive at Eldorado National Forest. Located within the magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, this national forest is brimming with outdoor activities. Choose from kayaking on forest lined lakes, hiking sections of the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, or mountain biking on forested trails. During the winter months, Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe, south of Lake Tahoe, is a hotspot for snow sports. The 40-acre area sits on top of Echo Summit and provides excellent opportunities for downhill skiing, snowboarding, and tubing as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

If you follow Highway 50 all the way to Lake Tahoe you can then make a scenic loop by driving north on Highway 89 and returning to Knights Landing via Interstate 80. This stunning road passes through the heart of Tahoe National Forest, crossing the Yuba Pass. At this spot, drivers can enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding area. This national forest is open to explorers all year round and offers a combination of mountain peaks, lake basin, and historic mining towns. Throughout the summer, visitors flock to Tahoe National Forest to take advantage of the extensive hiking, biking, and equestrian trails which traverse remote sections of the park or take part in water sports at Stampede Reservoir. You can also visit during the wintertime for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on Kyburz Flat.

When you’re ready to return your RV rental in Guinda, take a bit of time to discover the history of this tiny Californian town. The village post office was opened in 1889 and Guinda Store, which is still open for business today, was constructed in 1891.

Guinda’s history is unique. Unlike in other regions of California, African-American pioneers were able to settle and build their farms, businesses, and families in the heart of Capay Valley. Guinda, therefore, became known as a refuge for runaway and liberated slaves. Guinda celebrates its history every year on the second Saturday of February with the annual Back History/Multi-Cultural Day. During the event, readings from history books and pioneer journals are performed at the Guinda Grange Hall.

After learning about Guinda, step out into the town's charming gardens. Vernon A. Nicholas County Park sits alongside Cache Creek and provides a family-friendly space for picnics, barbecues, and swimming. Let the kids burn off energy in the playground or practice your throw on the baseball court. You’ll never be short of things to see and do when you rent an RV in Guinda, California.
